Chapter 32

Later that night Y/N sprung from her sleep, her breathing heavy, a sheen of sweat covered her as she tried to calm down. Barry woke at the sudden movement, but just as he moved closer to Y/N she backed away quickly.

"No," she said shaking her head. "I don't wanna hurt you...I hurt you," she said putting her face in her hands.

Barry pulled one of her hands away and put it against his bare chest, "It's still beating, you didn't hurt me, I'm fine." Barry gave a subtle nod as he brought Y/N into his arms.

He rocked her back and forth soothingly, giving her a moment to compose herself. A few minutes later she was still in his arms, Y/N lay between his legs holding onto his torso, hiding her face in his chest. Barry's arms still held Y/N, not quite as tightly as before, one hand running up and down her back.

It wasn't long after that Barry noticed that Y/N's breathing had relaxed, she had fallen asleep in his arms, not that he minded, Barry only wished that it were under better circumstances.

--

The next morning, Barry looked down and saw Y/N fast asleep on his chest, her arm draped over him provided comfort, he couldn't help but smile at how peaceful she seemed. He slowly shifted her closer to him and let his eyes take another rest.

Barry's eyes opened once more when he felt Y/N's hand twitch on his chest. She looked up at him, a smile spreading across her face.

"Good morning," she whispered.

"Good morning," he whispered back to her.

"Do we have to get up?" she yawned.

Barry laughed, "Eventually," he answered.

"But eventually isn't now," Y/N said planting a kiss on Barry's jaw.

Barry grinned as Y/N nuzzled herself back into his chest, Barry head now resting against her own, neither of them wanting the moment to end.

Y/N woke a few hours later to the gentle sound of rain outside, she rolled over only to see an empty bed. She slowly sat up and rubbed her tired eyes, she didn't hear Barry downstairs and assumed he must've left for some reason.

--

Y/N walked into Barry's lab at the station and saw Joe running over some files as she entered.

"Hey, Joe. Is Barry here?" she asked.

He looked up from his work, "No," he said shaking his head. "Although he was here earlier, he had a lead on that radioactive metahuman you two have been working on. He said that he was gonna go check it out."

"Did he say why?" Y/N asked.

Joe shook his head, "Just said that it was important."

"Thanks, let me know if you hear anything from him," Y/N said walking out of Barry's lab.

On her way out of CCPD Y/N got a phone call from Cisco, "Hey, Cisco. Do you know where Barry is?"

"Uh..yes?" he replied awkwardly. "Can you come down to the lab, Barry's here."

--

"Where is he?" Y/N asked as she entered the Cortex.

Cisco let out a nervous chuckle, "A funny story, actually," he started. "Um...he kinda sorta took down our radioactive metahuman...Fallout," Cisco explained.

"Is that blood?" Y/N asked glancing down at Cisco's shirt.

"No?" he replied.

"That is not a question that you answer with a question," Y/N said as she pushed past him and went towards the med bay. "You didn't say goodbye," Y/N said as she made her way towards Barry.

His head immediately shot up when he heard a voice only to see Y/N walking towards him. "Hey," he said getting up from the bed. "Cisco called with a lead on our radioactive metahuman, who he named Fallout by the way. Caitlin already checked me out,  and I'm fine," Barry explained as he snaked his arms around her waist.

"You still could've said goodbye," Y/N replied looking at one of the burns on his cheek, most likely from the radiation.

"Oh please, you still love me," Barry said pecking her on the lips.

"That's what you think," she joked.

"No," he said shaking his head, "That's what I know."

"And how do you know that?" Y/N countered.

"Because only someone who loves me would bring me Big Belly Burger," Barry said snatching the bag from her and going back over to his bed. Y/N chuckled as she sat down across from him.

"So, what kind of lead did you get on Fallout?" she asked as she dug into the food.

Barry shrugged his shoulders, "He was spotted just North of the waterfront downtown, I got down there and handled the situation."

She nudged his arm, "You saved the day," Y/N smiled.

--

A few hours later Barry got a call from Joe, "Hey," Barry said. "What's up?"

"How fast can you and Y/N get down to the station?" Joe asked.

"Why?" Barry questioned, he wondered if a situation had arisen at CCPD. He started to think that there might be a metahuman, or something worse.

"It's not what you think," Joe added. "I gotta go, just get down here, the Mayor wants to meet the Flashes," Joe said before hanging up.

Y/N walked back into the room, "Who was that?" she asked as she sat down next to him.

"Joe, he said that the Flashes are needed down at the station, the Mayor of Central City wants to meet us," Barry explained, sounding very proud of himself.

"Really?" Y/N asked sounding rather surprised. "Did he say why?"

Barry shook his head, "Just made it sound really important."

"Then I suggest that we suit up," Y/N smirked.

--

Barry and Y/N both skidded to a halt in Captain Singh's office, before them stood Singh, Joe, and the Mayor of Central City.

"Flashes," the Mayor happily cheered. "I was beginning to think that you wouldn't show," he said shaking both Barry and Y/N's hand. "It's an honor to meet the both of you."

"Please," Barry interrupted, "The honor is ours."

"Well, I guess I should cut right to the chase, huh?" he chuckled. "I'm sure I speak for all of Central City when I say that we are eternally grateful for everything that you two have done for us, now it's our turn to do something for you. I would like to give you both keys to the city and medals of valor for everything that you have done," he explained.

Y/N nodded along and turned to Barry, they were both thinking the same thing, "No," she said turning back to the Mayor.

"Excuse me?!" he said sounding surprised by the answer.

"No. I'm sure I speak for both us when I say that we don't do this for glory, we do what we do because it's the right thing to do. This city is in danger, and we are the only ones that can save it," Y/N said.

"I agree," Barry chimed in. "We don't do this to get our names in the paper or to get on TV or get some award. We do this because no one else can, or will."

"So our answer is no," Y/N repeated.

Just then both Barry and Y/N got an alert from Cisco, "I got it," Barry said looking at Y/N.

"You sure?" she questioned. "What even is it?" she asked.

"Just a building fire downtown, I'll be back in a flash," he answered with a wink.

"You sure about this, you don't want me to tag along?"

"Yeah," he nodded, "I'll be fine, you stay here."

"Do me a favor and don't die," Y/N smirked as he sped out of the room.

"Umm...is that still a no then?" the Mayor asked, regaining Y/N's attention.

Joe stepped forward and cut in, "I think that you should consider this beyond just the award factor, it's a way for the people of Central City to show thanks for what you've done...it's not a publicity stunt," he explained to Y/N.

Y/N then heard Barry grunt over the comms, "Are you okay?" she asked.

"Yeah...it's nothing," he replied.

"I just don't know about this," she said turning her attention back to the Mayor and crossing her arms.

"Cut them some slack, Y/N," Barry said over the comms, "I mean, I'm okay with getting another day named after me, maybe we'll both get drinks at Jitters," he joked.

Captain Singh stepped forward, "I can see where you think that this is a bad idea, but at the same time it's a way to show how much you have done for us. Besides, you'd only have to make an appearance for five minutes, show up get the awards and leave...simple as that."

Y/N let out a sigh before she could answer Barry sped back into the room. "I'm back," he panted.

"Is that blood?" Y/N questioned looking at the red stain on his torso.

"No?"

"Like I told someone earlier, that is not a question that you answer with a question," she snapped back. "Come on, let's get it looked at," Y/N said leading them both towards the door, lost in their own little world.

"Wait," the Mayor called after them. "Is that a yes?"

"Yes."
