Chapter 6

It's been a couple of months since Thomas and Steffy left the company and Felicia took over as CEO now that she has been a majority share holder. Things have drastically changed. HFTF has taken a huge hit in sales since Thomas left the company. Felicia has been changing a lot. She has been threatening to scrap HFTF if the sales don't improve. Zende has not been designing his best for HFTF, however as a side project he has been working on a men's line that has been showing a lot of promise and getting a lot of buzz. The couture line has been making a strong come back. There have been several pitch ideas for a lot of promising new lines, swim wear, winter wear, even a kids line. The potential seems endless at this point.

Hope sits in her office looking over the numbers for HFTF. "Come on, Thomas could not have been the only reason for the success for HFTF." Hope says to herself. Just then there is a knock at the office door. "Come in." Hope says without looking up from the numbers.

The door opens and Lt. Baker and Detective Sanchez enter the office. Hope still has not looked up from her paperwork. Lt. Baker clears his throat, and Hope looks up.

"Lt. Baker, Detective Sanchez, to what do I owe the pleasure." Hope says smiling, while on the inside she is nervous. Why are these two in her office, it can't be anything good.

"We also contacted your husband Liam, he should be here shortly." Hope gets an even worse feeling in her stomach. Liam enters the office.

"What's going on?" Liam says confused.

"Is everyone Ok?" Hope says in a panic, "Is it Douglas? Is he hurt?"

"Douglas, and everyone else is fine," Lt. Baker explains, "We just came across some new information."

Hope and Liam exchange nervous glances as Liam places his arm around Hope's shoulder.

"It turns out Beth was not the first baby that Dr. Reese Buckingham trafficked."

"That's horrible," Hope says, "But why are we just knowing about this now?"

"Reese knew that if we knew about the decades of trafficking his sentence would significantly increase." Detective Sanchez explained, "That's why we didn't find out until he let it slip to an informant that wasn't even there for him."

"That is sickening," says Liam, "But why are you telling us?"

Lt. Baker and Detective Sanchez exchange uncomfortable glances. "We have created a database that is worldwide to try to reunite children with their families who have been mourning them for decades through DNA." Hope and Liam continue to exchange nervous glances. "We need to DNA test Beth to make sure she is actually Beth Spencer and not a missing child."

"NO!" Hope angrily says as Liam just stares blankly, "She is my daughter."

"That may be Mrs. Spencer, but we have to DNA test her. This is not a request. You must be at the hospital to test her, if she is your daughter then you can put this behind you forever and take her home."

Later at the hospital...

Hope, Liam, Brooke, Ridge, and Beth are all in a room waiting for the results. "What is taking so long." Hope demands.

"Everything will be ok honey," Brooke says walking over to Hope embracing her in a hug. Beth plays with her toys on the floor, not knowing that her whole life could change in a split second.

The doctor walks in with a straight face. Hope and Liam's heart sinks to the pit of their stomachs. She looks up at Hope and Liam. "Mr. and Mrs. Spencer, I don't know how to tell you this but Beth's DNA does not match yours.

Hope just goes numb, she opens her mouth to cry but nothing comes out. She collapses to her knees. "This can't be happening," Hope says as Liam is still standing there not knowing what to do.

"I'm so sorry Hope," Lt. Baker says, "But we have to take Beth into custody and find her birth parents."

"No, they already made peace with her death," Hope bargains, "Just let me continue raising her."

Lt. Baker and Detective Sanchez exchange uncomfortable glances, "Hope I understand your grief, you've been raising her. But her mother and father have been in pain and deserve to know that their child is alive." Brooke and Ridge attempt to bribe Lt. Baker and Detective Sanchez to no avail.

Just then the doctor comes back into the room. "I know this is difficult, but as the DNA was submitted into the database another match popped up."

Hope looks up in tears, "Oh what! Are you here to tell me you found MY daughter's birth parents!" Hope says with venom in her voice.

"No," the doctor says uncomfortably, "There was a match with your DNA with a 7 year old boy named Alex in foster care in Arizona."

"What?" Hope says through her tears, "That's impossible."

Liam gets quiet and angry, "7 years ago, you were married...to Wyatt."

Hope looks up in surprise, "I lost him, that's not possible."

"From what I see here, you were pretty far along in your pregnancy." The doctor says looking at the file, "Did they ever release the body to you?"

"The body, no." Hope thinks back really hard, "I didn't think there was a body to release."

The doctor looks at Lt. Baker, "I think we need to contact this Wyatt and get this little boy out of foster care and here in LA immediately."
