1.24. Mysterious ways

Harry waited all morning for a call from Louis, but it never game, so at noon, he decided to call him instead.

But Louis didn't pick up.

Could he be sleeping still?

He probably wasn't, Louis almost never slept in, so he knew he had be to ignoring him.

So he texted him.

To Lou: I know you went to London last night, and we need to talk, so please call me?

But when an hour passed, and he still hadn't heard anything, he decided to call Louis' nan to ask if Louis was okay. Helen told him that yes, Louis was okay, that that morning she had given Harry's message to Louis, and that now he had taken the dog out on a walk, but that she would tell him again that Harry wanted to talk to him.

But a few more hours went by, and Louis didn't call or text, so Harry again called him, but Louis didn't pick up.

To Lou: Why are you ignoring me???

To Lou: And what is it supposed to mean?

For a moment Harry contemplated going to the train station to catch a train to London, but then he realized it was a bad idea, because it would set a precedent: now each time Louis got upset, he was going to run off to London and expect Harry to go after him.

But he wasn't going to do that, and he wasn't going to beg anymore; he had already made it clear to Louis that he wanted to talk and fix things, so now the ball was in Louis' court.

So he waited, and waited, and waited.

And just like that nighttime came, and then Monday morning, and Harry started to think that maybe he should go to London.

But he had class, and he couldn't just put it aside because Louis was throwing a tantrum, that wasn't how he was going to handle this.

So that afternoon Harry texted Louis again.

To Lou: How are we supposed to be in a relationship if you don't talk to me? Just come home and we can talk... or at least call me!

But Louis didn't come home, nor did he call Harry, so Harry kept calling and texting his boyfriend, while the frustration he felt kept building and building, and that ended up causing him to do horribly on a test he had that Tuesday.

"I'm sure it wasn't that bad" Valerie told him after Harry come out of the classroom last, and told his friend how terrible he had done on the test.

"Yes, it was, I could barely think, and I forgot so much stuff that I knew" Harry groaned.

"That's weird for you, is everything okay?" Valerie questioned.

"No" Harry mumbled.

"What happened?" asked Valerie.

"Louis took off to London on Saturday, and he's not answering the phone or my texts" Harry explained.

"Did you break up or...?".

"No" Harry denied, and then huffed "Or at least not that I know... we just had a fight on Saturday before I met you guys at Nate's, and when I went back to the flat he was gone, no note, anything, and I haven't talked to him since".

"Then how do you know he's in London?" Valerie frowned.

"I talked to his grandmother, he's at their house" Harry explained "She says he seems fine, and I keep asking her to tell him to call me back, and she says she's giving him my message, but still nothing".

"I'm sorry, Harry" Valerie said apologetically "That must be hard.

"Yeah..." Harry sighed:

"I'm sure he'll call you back eventually" Valerie tried "I mean, you live together, and you're having a baby, so...".

"I thinks he wants me to go get him" Harry explained.

"Will you?".

"I don't know" Harry shrugged "Maybe I should, I keep going back and forth with the decision".

"I know I'm no relationship expert, but I think you should go if the fight you had was your fault, but if it was his fault, then he should come to you" Valerie offered.

"It was 100% his fault, but I'm also sure he blames me" Harry explained.

"Hmm" Valerie hummed "That's tricky".

"Yeah...".

"I don't know what else to tell you" Valerie said apologetically.

"You don't have to say anything" Harry smiled "But thank you for listening".

"Anytime".

By the time Harry arrived at the flat that afternoon, part of his expected to maybe find Louis there, but he didn't, and so he tried to call him, but once again Louis didn't pick up.

And because he wanted to blow off some steam after the test, and because of the stress this Louis situation was causing him, he invited Niall and Liam over for beer and pizza, and they were both happy to come over, and they even listened to Harry's drama when he told them about it.

On Wednesday Harry woke up with a bit of a hangover, but after a good shower, and a bowl of cereal, Harry felt a lot better, and he left for class, but only after trying to call Louis without any luck.

But things changed when he arrived home that afternoon, because as soon as he walked inside the flat, Harry saw his boyfriend sitting on the couch, watching the telly, as if he had never left.

"You're back" Harry said as he closed the door behind him.

"Uhm... yeah" Louis said, and turned off the telly with the remote.

"Are you okay?" Harry questioned.

"Yes" Louis nodded and got up.

"How's the baby?" Harry wanted to know.

"Baby's great" Louis replied, putting his hand on his stomach over his jumper "They called me with the test results this morning".

"And?".

"Everything came back normal" Louis said and gave him a small smile.

"That's a big relief" Harry smiled back.

"Yeah" Louis nodded as he fiddled with his fingers "The doctor said that the test also showed the sex of the baby, and she offered to tell me".

"And did she?" Harry questioned.

"Yeah, I couldn't resist" Louis shrugged "Do you wanna know?".

"Uhm..." Harry hesitated, he hadn't even thought about it before "I guess that if you know, then... yes, I wanna know".

Louis smiled again, and he picked up a small white paper bag from the coffee table, which Harry hadn't even noticed before, and he offered it to Harry.

"I know colors have no gender, but..." Louis shrugged as Harry took the bag.

He opened it, and took out a pair of tiny baby blue booties, and they were so cute that they  immediately made Harry smile.

"It's a boy?" Harry asked his boyfriend.

Louis nodded as he bit his lip.

"Wow" Harry realized "We're gonna have a son".

"Yeah" Louis replied.

Harry left the bag back on the table, and as he still held the booties, he wrapped his arms around Louis, who hugged him back immediately.

"I missed you" Louis whispered.

"Why did you even leave? And why didn't you call me back?" Harry questioned.

"Because I'm stupid, and I was scared, I'm still scared".

"Scared of what?" Harry asked, as he let go of Louis' waist, and he held his face.

"You got so angry at me on Saturday, and said I was childish and ridiculous, I thought you were going to break up with me when you came back home" Louis explained "So I left thinking that if you didn't see me you would maybe think twice and not break up with me. But then I realized I made a mistake by leaving, and that you probably got even angrier at me, so I avoided you because if we didn't talk you couldn't break up with me. Then I got the test results this morning, and I knew I had to come back, but I'm still scared that you're going to break up with me... so are you?".

"No" Harry shook his head "But you can never do this again, Louis".

"I'm sorry".

"I know you've never been in a relationship before, but this isn't how you make one work, you can't just run off and cut all communications" Harry you old him "I almost called the police on Saturday when I didn't find you".

"I'm sorry" Louis said again, making a face that was adorable "Please forgive me? For all of it?".

Harry sighed, but then he nodded, and he kissed Louis' forehead before he wrapped his arms around him again.

"You're lucky that I love you so much" Harry told him.

"I love you too" Louis replied, his voice muffled.

Harry let go of Louis again, and he held his hand, and took him to the couch, because he needed them to figure out other things.

"We need to talk about what happened on Saturday, love" Harry told him "Because I did go study that night, and it pains me to know that you think I would lie to you about that".

"I know now that you weren't lying, but that day I kind of got blinded by what I was feeling" Louis explained.

"What were you feeling?".

"That you didn't want to spend time with me" Louis mumbled

"Why would you think that?" Harry questioned.

"Because we never spend time together; you're always in class, or studying with your friends, or studying here with the door closed" Louis explained "So basically we're only together for 10 minutes during breakfast, then an hour at most at dinner time, and then we sleep in the same bed, but even that doesn't count because we barely even have sex".

Harry nodded, trying to understand Louis' point of view.

"And even that Saturday, I thought we would finally have some time to do something just the two of us, but then you said your mum was coming, and she's great, she's so nice, and your step dad too, but I wanted to spend time with you alone, like we used to in London" Louis mumbled "We used to do so many fun things together, and no we just... don't".

"You're right" Harry admitted "We haven't really done anything fun together lately, and I wish we did, I love spending time with you, but baby, you need to understand how hard Uni is, and I need to dedicate so much time to it to be able to do well".

"I know that, and I understand it, but it doesn't change how I feel" Louis explained "Can't you just... try to spend more time with me?".

"Of course I can try to do that" Harry agreed "But you should try to accept my situation too, yeah?".

Louis nodded.

"Truth is, I haven't been doing so great in my classes" Harry confessed.

"What do you mean?" Louis frowned.

"I'm not failing, but I'm not doing as well as I'm used to or as I would want" Harry explained.

"It's my fault, isn't it?" Louis said sadly.

"It's not your fault" Harry denied "It's all the circumstances together, but it means I can't lose focus when it comes to Uni, okay?".

"Okay" Louis nodded.

"But today I don't have to do that, so what do you say we go grab dinner and then we go to the movies?" Harry proposed.

"I'd love that" Louis grinned.

And so they did to that, and it was really, and Louis seemed to happy through all of it, that it made Harry forget all about their fight Louis leaving. But the day didn't end there, because when they came home that night, they had sėx, which felt amazing, and it definitely made the reconnect in a way they had been losing lately.

"I missed that" Louis said as they cuddled afterwards.

"Me too" Harry agreed as he softly ran his hand across Louis' naked back.

"Babe?" Louis asked after a few seconds of silence.

"Mmm?".

"Are you happy that we're going to have a boy?" Louis questioned.

"Of course I'm happy" Harry said, and kissed Louis' head "I would have been happy either way".

"I want to name him Landon" Louis declared.

"Landon" Harry tested it out.

"Yeah, Landon Styles" Louis added as he looked up at him.

"Not Tomlinson?" Harry questioned.

"No, I want him to be a Styles" Louis explained.

"Thanks, I would actually love for him to have my last name" Harry smiled.

"We don't have to choose the name Landon, though, if you don't like it?" Louis said shyly.

"No, but I like it a lot" Harry said as he thought about it "I think it's a great name for him".

"Are you sure?".

"I do" Harry said honestly "But can I choose his middle name?".

"Yes" Louis smiled "Do you have one in mind?".

"Grey" Harry said right away, because he had always thought it sounded so cool as a middle name "Do you think it sounds weird?".

"Not at all, I like it" Louis replied "Landon Grey Styles".

"It sounds pretty cool" Harry considered.

"Yeah, it does" Louis grinned "So it's a keeper?".

"100%" Harry confirmed.

"I can't believe we just chose our baby's name" Louis said happily.

Harry smiled, and pecked Louis' lips, and then he placed his hand over the small bump on Louis' middle, which had grown a little since the last time Harry had done that.

"I love him so much already" Harry told his boyfriend.

"Me too" Louis replied "He's going to be the most loved baby in the world, and he's never going to feel alone, or unwanted or unloved".

When he said those things, Louis' eyes filled with tears, and Harry knew he was projecting his on childhood into their baby's future experience.

"Just so you know..." Harry said as he cupped Louis' face.

"Mmm?" Louis hummed.

"You're not alone, you are wanted and you are very loved" Harry assured him.

Louis blushed, and snuggled into Harry's body, which was the cutest thing, and it even made Harry love his boyfriend even more.

A.N. This chapter is a little short, but I hope you liked it anyway!

What do you think about Louis staying away for days?

And how do you think Harry handled Louis coming back?

Thank you for reading!

Xoxo

P.S. As I've said before in some of my other books, name preference is something VERY subjective. Some will like the names I chose here, and inevitably, some of you will hate them, but no matter what I choose someone will be unhappy! So just deal with it if you're unhappy, it's just a name in a fanfic 😬
