1.10. I won't let you go

Harry decided to give Louis all day Saturday to cool off, but on Sunday he called him, mostly because he wanted to check if he was okay.

But Louis didn't pick up, and when Harry texted asking Louis to call him, he didn't call or text back either.

On Monday when Harry called and again he didn't get an answer, he definitely worried, specially considering there had been no activity on Louis' Instagram, which was rare.

Could Louis have done something to himself?

He wouldn't... or would he?

Harry continued worrying all through Tuesday, and for a second, he had a moment of peace when his phone started ringing as he got ready for bed that night.

But when he looked at the screen, he saw his sisters name on it, and not Louis'.

"Hey" Harry sighed as he picked up.

"What's with the sighing" Gemma asked him.

"I just thought you were someone else calling" Harry replied.

"Who?" Gemma wanted to know.

"Someone I'm seeing".

"Louis, right?".

"How do you know his name?" Harry asked confused.

"Uncle Dave" Gemma replied, and then added "I called him last week when I called you and you didn't pick up, and he told me you were probably with Louis".

"Oh" Harry realized.

"I looked into the people you follow on Instagram and I saw a Louis Tomlinson, who's been liking all your pictures lately, so I guess it's him" Gemma told him "He's cute, by the way".

"You're a psychopath" Harry shook his head.

"I'm just a sister invested in her little brother's life" Gemma said.

"Sure you are".

"So what's going on with Louis?" Gemma wondered.

"At the moment he's not even talking to me" Harry confessed.

"Why?" Gemma wanted to know.

"Because he asked me to be his boyfriend and I said that I didn't want to be in a long distance relationship" Harry explained.

"Yikes".

"Yeah".

"So if you ended things with him why do you expect him to call?" questioned Gemma.

"Because we didn't really end things, not properly, and I want to talk to him to make sure he's okay" Harry explained.

"Why wouldn't he be okay?" Gemma wondered.

"He's complicated...".

"So you want to talk to him just to make sure he's okay, or is it that you want to keep sleeping with him until you leave?" Gemma asked.

"I wasn't just sleeping with him, I really got to know him, and he's great" said Harry.

"Not that great if you don't want to be in a relationship with him" Gemma pointed out.

"He really is amazing, and if we lived in the same city things would be different, but relationships are hard enough as it is, so to add long distance to it? It's too much" Harry explained.

"You're right about that, relationships are hard, and long distance has to make it harder, but I can't really know, I've never been in a long distance relationship" Gemma considered.

"Me neither, but I don't think you have to experience it to know it's a bad idea" Harry sighed "He really is amazing, I like being with him, and I already miss him, but I need to prioritize school".

"I'm sorry, Harry" Gemma said apologetically "But you're probably making the right call, you should follow your instinct".

"What if it's my rational side the one telling me I shouldn't be with Louis, and my instinct is telling me the opposite?" Harry questioned.

"Maybe you can see it this way: make the decision that you're mostly sure that you won't regret" Gemma advised.

"Hmm" Harry considered.

"I'm sorry I can't be of more help" Gemma apologized.

"No, it's okay, I know this is something I have to figure out on my own" Harry said "But anyway, why did you call?".

"Nothing in particular, I just wanted to catch up" Gemma replied.

"Did mum ask you to call me?" Harry asked suspiciously.

"Yes" Gemma confessed "She said she talked to you earlier and you sounded off, so she asked me to investigate, but now I know why you sounded off".

"Please don't tell her about Louis or any of this?" Harry asked of his sister.

"I won't if you don't want me to, but why? It's not like she has ever told us who to date and who not to date" Gemma considered.

"I know, I just don't want to make a big deal out of it" explained Harry.

"I get it" Gemma agreed "But you might want to ask uncle Dave not to tell her anything either".

"Right" Harry realized "Do you think he already mentioned him to her?".

"I don't think so, mum would have brought it up when she called me, but she didn't" Gemma considered.

Harry was glad to hear that, and after saying goodbye to his sister and telling her he loved her, they ended the call. Then Harry went to find his uncle, who was still up, and he asked him not to mention anything no his mum, and he agreed, and even apologized for telling Gemma, but Harry told him not to worry about it, and went back to his room.

Right before going to bed, though, Harry sent a text to Louis, that read:

To Louis Tomlinson: Are you okay? I'm worried about you, please call me.

It was hard for Harry to sleep that night, and he kept thinking about what his sister told him, about making the choice he was sure he wouldn't regret.

If he chose not to be with Louis, would he regret it?

Maybe he would regret it, because there was a chance that he was never going to meet someone like him again... someone who he felt connected to in the same way.

Because even though they were very different, and had different pasts and backgrounds, they had an indescribable connection, one that Harry had never shared with anyone he dated before, not even with the people he had had proper relationships with.

He had had 3 of those in his life; the first with a girl named Molly, who he started dating when they were both 14, and that lasted for little less than year; they were 15 when they broke up.

Then came Alex, and he was the one who made Harry realize that he was bisexual. Harry started seeing him right before his 16th birthday, and they were together for a year and half. It was a very intense relationship, specially considering they lost their virginities to each other, but somehow their love just faded away, and they broke up.

Harry's latest relationship had been during his first year at Uni, with a girl named Rebecca, who he had met at a party, but they were together for only 8 months, Harry being the one who broke up with her, because he felt like there was no real chemistry between them, no passion, and he wanted that.

He had that with Louis, though...

There was so much passion there, so much chemistry.

But at the same time being with Louis meant taking in all of his baggage, which was a lot. That was something that he absolutely couldn't ignore, specially after all the things he told him on Saturday morning; about his abandonment issues, the self harming, the therapy...

At some point, while all of that was going through his head, he fell asleep, but the second he woke up Louis was the first thing that came to his head.

He couldn't get him out of his mind.

What did that mean?

That he needed to give being with Louis a chance?

Harry checked his phone, and there was no missed calls or texts from Louis, and he bit his lip, thinking maybe he needed to go visit him.

But he couldn't do that right now, he needed to go to work, but as he left the flat to go to the office, he was determined to go see Louis after he was done with work.

Except he ended up working until 10 PM that night, which was too late to go to Louis' announced, specially considering he basically lived with his grandparents.

So he went home, and he had just finished eating a plate of leftover Isabel had left for him, when his phone rang, and this time it wasn't Gemma, it was actually Louis.

"Lou" Harry picked him.

"Hey" Louis said, his voice serious "Can you come downstairs?".

"Down where?" Harry frowned.

"Your flat, or are you not there?" Louis questioned.

"I am, but..." Harry started to say, feeling confused.

"Then come downstairs please, I'm here and I want to talk to you in person" Louis informed him.

"Uhm... okay" Harry agreed "I'll be right there".

"Okay".

Harry was still confused when he ended the call, but he still grabbed a jacket and his keys, and he went downstairs, where he immediately spotted Louis, who was leaning against his parked motorcycle.

And that sight made Harry feel two things right away, the first one was relief to see that Louis was okay, and the second was... happiness.

He was just happy to see Louis again, and it was the sort of happiness that made his heart full.

"Lou, I've been calling you and texting you" Harry told him as he walked up to him.

"I know" Louis admitted.

"Why didn't you pick up? I was worried about you" Harry explained.

"I'm fine, I just needed to think" Louis said and crossed his arms "But I came because I need to tell you something".

"Okay..." Harry trailed off.

"Like I said I needed to think, and I've doing a lot of that... I thought a lot about us, and the things you said on Saturday, and I realized something" Louis explained.

"What's that?".

"You're a coward" Louis declared.

"What?" Harry asked, because he didn't expect that.

"You're a coward, and I couldn't let you go back home without telling you that" Louis explained.

"Uhm... okay?".

"You clearly like me a lot, you wouldn't have been spending so much time with me or putting up with my shït if you didn't like me" Louis informed him "But for whatever reason you're too scared to even try to be with me, and that makes you a coward".

"Lou..." Harry started.

"Let me finish" Louis cut him off "I put myself out there, and told you about myself even though I knew it was a risk, because I'm basically crazy-".

"You're not crazy" Harry cut him off.

"Whatever" Louis said dismissively "But I took a risk, I told you about myself because I thought we could be something, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this, you feel it too, don't you?".

"I...".

"And it's not like I asked you to marry me, I just asked you to be my boyfriend, and I know that means us getting into a long distance relationship, and yes, those normally don't work, but some do, and we could be one of those, so why not try? The worst thing that can happen is that it doesn't work out and we each go their own way, but at least we'll know we tried".

"Can I talk now?" Harry asked feeling amused.

"No" Louis denied "I don't want you to say anything until you've really thought about it, think about it the way I'm explaining it, and then you can answer me, okay?".

"But I already have an answer" Harry told him.

"I don't want to hear it" Louis shook his head.

"Louis..." Harry started.

"I don't want to hear it unless your answer is that you want to be my boyfriend" Louis insisted.

"Good, because I want to be your boyfriend" Harry declared.

He wasn't sure when he had made that decision, if last night or right now when he saw Louis, or after his little speech, but he had made up his mind.

He wanted to be with Louis.

"You do?" Louis frowned.

"Yes" Harry confirmed.

"Do you really mean it?" Louis asked, as a small smile appeared on his lips.

"Yes".

"Even though I'm crazy?".

"You're not crazy" Harry denied again.

"Are you sure it's what you want?" Louis asked, his confident demeanor from before disappearing "Because my therapist says that I'm good at pressuring and guilting people into doing things, and I don't know if that's what happened here".

"You didn't pressure me or guilt me into wanting this, this is truly what I want" Harry assured him "I want you to be my boyfriend".

Louis smiled, and Harry's heart started beating so fast for him, that all he could do was wrap his arms around Louis to bring him close.

"Thank you" Louis mumbled, and he sounded relieved as he hugged Harry back.

"Oh, baby..." Harry whispered while he rubbed his back soothingly.

When he let go a little to be able to look at Louis' face, he noticed that he had tears in his eyes, so he used his hand to wipe them away.

"You're so special, Lou" Harry told him "I'm sorry if I made you feel otherwise".

"Doesn't matter" Louis shook his head "Nothing matters as long as you're with me".

Harry smiled, and leaned down to give Louis a kiss on the lips.

"We'll make this work, yes?" Harry asked when their lips parted.

"Yes, we'll make it work" Louis confirmed.
