Chapter 34: Mole

Sigil woke up to the feeling of a liquid encompassing him yet his mouth was untouched by it instead being covered by something else. ‘Bacta?’ He thought, observing the room around him.

In front of him was a figure he still couldn’t make out who had failed to notice his awakening. To his relief however a medical droid had sensed the change in breathing and came in to check on him only to find him awake.

“Doctor.” The droid said, tugging on a female Zabrak’s coat. “What?!” The woman said in frustration, yanking her coat free of the droid’s grasp.

“Patient number three is awake.” The droid informed. Her expression quickly became serious as she moved in to check on the now conscious Admiral.

Peering through the tank’s thick glass walls, she saw a pair of eyes staring back at her. Seeing that he indeed was awake, doctor ‘Veg’ walked over to the vital’s display just off the side of the tank.

The readings indicated he was fine but just to make sure, she ran a full body scan using sensors built into the tank. The results only showed a few broken ribs but nothing else was out of the ordinary.

Pressing the medical crane’s lift button, Sigil was slowly lifted up and out of the bacta tank and made to stand next to the medical bed.

Walking over, Veg handed him a jumpsuit he could wear back to his quarters.

“Thanks doctor. How long was I out for? What even happened?” He asked, taking the jumpsuit from her. “First of all, two days and second of all It was a planted bomb.” She replied. “How come I didn’t sense i-” He began murmuring quietly as he put it on but remembered that he cut himself off for the duration of the game.

“Anybody caught?” he asked. “No but they do have suspects.” She replied. “Who?” He asked, looking at her while trying to keep his balance.

“They suspect it to be the former Imperial Captain, a man named Antioch.” she said, now dropping her hips as she waited for him to get ready.

Sigil’s blood ran cold. It couldn’t have been his own brother in law but as it stood, he was the most likely candidate in the eyes of rebel intelligence.

“Anything wrong Admiral?” She asked, seeing him staring off into the distance. “No. Not at all.” He replied, looking up at her. “Thank you doctor.” He said, walking out of the room and intending to go towards his quarters on base.

Outside the door, he saw the awaiting Turan and Shim. “Admiral. Are you alright?” Turan aksed, turning around at the sound of the door only to see Sigil at the door.

“I appreciate your concerns. I am fine.” He said, trying to soothe their worries. “We unfortunately have been barred from doing our own investigation on the matter.” Shim grunted in frustration.

“Again, I appreciate your concerns as such under my orders you to carry out your investigation and report your findings. Whoever it was wasn’t Imperial, else a fleet would be here.” He informed.

With that, the pair of Noghris grinned and headed off down the hallway to begin their investigation of the planted bomb. Just then Sigil wondered what happened to Jan and Ackbar, causing him to reenter the medical room.

“Excuse me doctor.” He said. “Yes Admiral? Anything you forgot?” She asked, caught off guard by his reentering of the room. “Yes, I wasn’t the only one caught in the blast. What of General Dodanna and Admiral Ackbar?” He asked.

“I’m afraid General Dodanna is in a coma but Admiral Acjbar is considerably better yet needs a month to fully recover. At Least from what I heard.” She replied. “I appreciate your information.” He thanked, going out into the dimly lit hallway.

Looking out a nearby window, he saw that the outside was pitch black except for a limited number of stars illuminating the sky seeing as the clouds began to rain followed by the sound of thunder.

Rubbing his forehead, he walked towards his living quarters t9 contemplate his next moves. He had won their game for the suicide mission. A strategy to draw away Imperial forces from Endor would have to be drawn up.

In his room, lightning cracked as his door slid shut and he suddenly felt heavy, tired and unmotivated as a heavy aura washed over him.

Deciding he was better off in the morning, he moved towards his bed but stopped as he was about to prop himself down. The force around him screamed in warning. Feeling uneasy, he retracted the hand he had extended towards the bed.

A dark presence settled itself around him and made his heart ache as he gripped the nearby wall for support. His head was throbbing with pain as he called for Nox. “Nox! Is this you?!” He demanded from his companion yet heard nothing in return.

“No-” he tried calling out but his strength was not enough as he now collapsed on all fours.

Fighting through the pain, he forced himself through the pain and got himself into a meditative state. “There is only the force. There is only the force.” He kept repeating in distress to calm himself down until he finally reached serenity yet instead of being in his own head, he was somewhere foreign.

A temple of somesorts. A square foundation leading to a grand curved high ceiling with an open roof from which red light shone through onto the floor of the grand building made of ancient stones.

The temple was surely ancient from the fact that nature has reclaimed its former territory from the long gone builders of the structure.

As he was inspecting the structure in front of him, he sensed a chilling presence from behind. Turning around he saw the cloaked figure of Emperor Palpatine standing behind him.

“What are you doing here?! Where am I?!’ He demanded. Palpatine merely cackled as he called his lightsabers into his palms. Panic set in as Sigil hurriedly searched around his belt for anything. To his surprise, his hand rested around the curved hilt of a lightsaber.

Gripping it in his right hand firmly, he placed his left one behind his back and braced for the soon to come showdown as a blue blade emerged from the hilt at his command. Palpatine ignited both blades in kind.

Sigil was the first to move. Thrusting forward in a kneeling position to exaggerate his already massive reach but the Emperor parried with one blade and slashed with the other.

Sigil retracted his hand along with the blade, turning it off to avoid a risky blade lock. Back up again, he reignited it in time to catch a slash aimed at his right shoulder.

Palpatine jabbed forward with his right hand, aiming for Sigil’s knee. Sigil, flipped to the side. The attraction of the two blades, causing the Emperor’s blade to get out of his hand when his opponent flipped during a lock.

With Palpatine slightly exposed, Sigil jabbed forward for the Emperor’s stomach. Palpatine spun around, calling his fallen blade to his hand simultaneously.

Jumping over the ignited blade to his rear, Sigil tried to cleave. The Emperor however had other plans. In a mimic, he deactivated and reactivated the blade he already had in his hand around Sigil’s guard to be able to block the slash.

Once the second blade was in his hand, he brought under Sigil’s landing spot and slash upwards towards him. Sigil forced pushed the Emperor downwards and onto the floor before his blade could connect.

Sidious was quick to his feet however; kicking Sigil back with both legs a second after he landed.

While Sigil was trying to regain his footing, Sidious struck out, lunging after him with the force. The Emperor positioned both blades in a way that it would be impossible for his opponent to block both simultaneously with one blade.

Seeing that one blade was headed for his left knee, Sigil retracted it and used it to kick Palpatine in the face using a sidekick, avoiding the other bla⁸de in the process.

His opponent's boot had connected with his temple, knocking him onto his back. Standing triumphantly over his opponent, Sigil was about to raise his blade to strike him down but couldn’t do so.

Sidious poured lightning upon his opponent in a surprise attack. The jagged white core of the beams and outer indigo, struck the blue blade of the Admiral as he struggled against such great a torrent.

Palpatine didn’t relent nor did he hold back. His entire power was set free. Sigil was losing ground and wouldn’t be able to hold it for much longer.

Sensing Palpatine’s distraction, Sigil began to concentrate on the Emperor’s robes until they caught fire.

As the burning robe charred the Emperor's skin did he notice what was happening. In a panic he paused his onslaught, trying to put out the fire. Using the distraction, he threw his blade and it hit him in the chest as the Emperor disappeared into black dust and he was taken out of the ancient building and out of meditation.

“Are you ok dear?” Taer said, placing a soft kiss on Revan’s cheek. “Huh?” She grumbled, as she awoke. “You’ve been thrashing around.” He elaborated.

Only then did Taer realize that she was also covered in sweat. “Oh no.” She said, once fully awake, breaking out of his hug and standing upright on their bed, her legs dangling off its side. “What happened?” He tried to say but to no avail as she ran out of their room, followed by her confused and slower husband.,e

Turning the hallway where her brother’s quarters layed, seeing his room’s door close. Rushing down the hall even more panicked than before.

She barged in on a stranger holding a blaster pistol to Sigil’s head as he was panting in a meditative state in the dark side misted room.

Out of instinct, she reached out with the force, force pulling the blaster to get hand and smacking the assassin on the back of their head with it; rendering them unconscious.

Just then her brother went limp and he would have fallen on his back if it wasn’t for her catching him. where he was meditating; or at least appeared to have been “meditating”.

She could sense the essence of Darth Sidious, her former master there, yet a weak one as if he wasn’t fully there but some part of him or perhaps an avatar of the Dark Lord was.

Pondering still on why Sidious’s presence was in the room, she was brought back to reality when Sigil suddenly stood up.

“Are you alright brother?” She said, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Wha-” he tried saying but was interrupted by the breathless Taer barging into the room.

“You were dismissed already?!” He whispered in surprise, not expecting that his brother in law would have recovered so soon.

“As you could see I was dismissed.” Sigil replied sarcastically, getting up fully on his feet. “Who’s that?” Taer asked, Sihil gave him a look before turning around and seeing an unconscious body behind him.

“The assassin.” Revan whispered. “They were the one likely responsible for the bomb and had come here to fin8sh the job.” She finished, her features showing clear anger.

Sigil knelt down and lifted the person’s head up by their hair to get a better look. “It’s Lieutenant Woering. She served under Dodanna as a member of his bridge crew.” Sigio informed, letting go of the woman’s hair as her face fell on the ground a second time.

“This is Agent Trial. Requesting two troopers at sector five, room three.” Revan commed into her transmitter. “On our way.” Came the reply.

Now it was Sigil’s turn to make a call. “Turan, Shim, you got me?” He asked. “We do Admiral.” Shim’s voice responded. “We have the assailant. You are free to return back to your quarters and call off the investigation.” He told them. “Very well Admiral.” Turan replied.
