1. The Book

It was a beautiful day in Snowdin, Sans as always, was sleeping at his hotdog stand while everybody else was minding their own business. When Sans woke up he yawned and stood up.

Today he had some business to do at the library, or as some like to call it the "Librarby". Sans decided that the fastest way to get there is through one of his  "shortcuts" which actually means he just teleports from one place to another. But shortcuts sounded cooler to him.

Sans took a few steps, and then. A bright blue light appeared all over him. In a blink of an eye, he was standing inside the Library.

Sans remembered all the good moments he had in this place, like reading his first book about jokes or painting the sign with Papyrus. It was when he and his brother were still young, so they spelled library incorrectly, which is the reason that the word on the sign was "Librarby"

Sans proceeded to look at the bookshelves, he needed to find the perfect book that he wanted to borrow for so long. he knew that it should be in the Puzzles category so he went there.

He scanned the books with his eyes, reading every title twice. There were books about solving the Rubik's cube, learning magic tricks, and painting traps without activating them. It seemed old and dirty. He remembered that Papyrus borrowed it multiple times.

Eventually, he found just what he was looking for. He grabbed the book and smiled a little more, happy with what he found. Sans walked to the counter with a green monster behind it working on the computer.

-Heya, may I borrow somthin'? - Before the skeleton could put the book on the counter, the librarian took it from Sans' hands and quickly stamped it before returning to Sans. The librarian wanted to say something but decided not to.

-thanks. See ya later, pal. - Said Sans, but the librarian only let out a sigh. She was still mad over the misspelled sign. Because even tho it happened years ago, her boss was still salty about it. So she had to be salty too in order to keep her job.

The skeleton was really happy that he found the book he was looking for. For years someone didn't return it to the library. Sans still remembered asking the librarian "Is the book here yet?" almost every day when he was younger.  But it never was. Only today he got a call from the library claiming that someone finally returned it and Sans can take it at any moment if he wants to. Sans still couldn't believe that somebody finally returned it.

He was glad that after many years, he could give it to his younger brother, Papyrus.

Sans went to a dark corner of the library. he jumped and in the blink of an eye, he appeared on the couch in his house. The couch made a quiet squeaking noise, Papyrus was in the kitchen. too busy with the dishes to hear it. Sans put the book behind his back, stand up happy from the couch, and made his way to the kitchen. Sans was just about to say about the book to his bro but then he noticed.

Papyrus was holding a plate above the sink, rinsing it with water and soap. but the surprising and unusual thing is that Papyrus had warm tears coming down his bony face. He seemed upset about something.

Sans was confused, to say the least. Was Papyrus really crying? Still confused, he put his comforting hand on Papyrus' back. Papyrus flinched in surprise and looked at his brother. He didn't expect his brother to be there this early. Papyrus wiped the tears from his face and said

-  h-HELLO, SANS! - His voice was raspy and full of emotion, but the skeleton tried his best to hide his distress from Sans. He didn't want to worry him or anyone else. His brother was about to ask Papy about the tears, but Papyrus was faster to speak. He looked at the green clock ticking on the wall in front of him, and his expression changed to a more stable and less sad one. He needed to shift Sans' attention to something else than himself.

-ARE YOU SLACKING OFF AGAIN?? IS THAT THE REASON YOU'RE HOME EARLY? - this time he sounded slightly annoyed, Papyrus doesn't like when Sans is slacking off all the time. It makes him feel like a bad brother that does not know how to motivate anyone to do anything even the person he cares about the most in the world, Sans.

But Sans didn't care about him slacking off. He was curious and worried about the reason Papyrus cried, if he wiped his tears as soon as he stood next to him then he most likely does not want to talk about whatever happened that made him cry in secret. But Sans wanted to know in order to help, so he decided to investigate a little. But before that, he wants to give Papyrus a little gift. After all, he waited for years just to give it to him. And maybe this will cheer him up a bit.

Sans looked with analyzing eyes at Papyrus and proceeded to explain himself.
-Yeah, sorry bout that, Pap. But there is just something I really need to give you. - Then, he showed Papyrus the book he got from the library, it was titled,, How to make super advanced traps"

Papyrus looked at Sans rather surprised, but happy nonetheless. The tall skeleton proceeded to speak.

-WOWIE! YOU GOT ME A BOOK! I WAS LOOKING FOR IT BUT I NEVER SEEN IT IN THE LIBRARY BEFORE - Sans handed him the book, Papyrus opened it and started looking through its pages

-I CANNOT WAIT TO READ IT LATER TONIGHT! THANK YOU! YOU ARE TRULY THE BEST BROTHER! -Papyrus seemed much happier now with the book.

Sans smiled, he was very glad that his brother appreciated the gift and even cheered up a bit. Yet he was still wondering about the reason his brother was crying, Papyrus normally never cries, No matter when no matter where. It was worrying, to say the least. He needed to know the truth but decided to play it cool for now. Maybe it's not that serious?

- I'm Glad you like it. - Sans grinned, Papyrus put the book on the counter away from the sink and continued doing the dishes, he grabbed a plate in his hand and proceeded to scrub it with a sponge.

it's just then that Sans decided to analyze his brother a little more, just in case. Maybe it will explain Papyrus' behaviour.

Something about his brother's appearance was wrong. He had dark circles under his eyes indicating that he did not sleep well, perhaps he had another nightmare? Lately, Papyrus told him about his weird nightmares, they were about becoming a lonely king of the underground while everyone else was on some sort of vacation. Sans shook off that thought as soon as it came, why would Papyrus be sad about his nightmares hours after they happened? That was simply not possible. After all, it was already 10:30. And Papyrus usually wakes up at something around- Wait. it's that late already? Sans quickly took another glance at the clock. Did Papyrus... forget? No, it's impossible. He always remembers everything!

-Hey Paps, It's pretty late already. shouldn't you be training with Undyne right now? - Papyrus put down the plate with a sponge and gasped in surprise

-OH NO, I COMPLETELY FORGOT! I HAVE TO GO NOW! THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME, DEAR BROTHER! -  Before Sans could ask how the hell his bro forgot about something so important, Papyrus was already running towards the door, and shortly after his hand was touching the door knob. but before he could open it and run to the Waterfall, He found himself unable to move. He looked at himself and noticed...

-You're blue now. - Sans' hand was in front of him. He was using his blue magic on Papyrus.

-SANS! IT'S NO TIME FOR JOKES, I HAVE TO GO! - You could hear the annoyance in his voice, he wanted to run as fast as he could to the Waterfall, otherwise, Undyne will yell at him for being late! And, she will be worried sick for him! Or ..will she? Papyrus didn't know.

-I know bro, I will let you go in a moment, I just wanted to ask. - Papyrus was surprised by his brother's behavior.
- Are you... okay? - Sans asked with a worried expression on his face. Papyrus was taken aback by this question. Why was he worried? He didn't see him cry, did he? He hoped he didn't.

Papyrus raised his nonexistent eyebrow, if he could move he would most likely do one of his heroic poses.
-OF COURSE, I AM! HOW COULD I NOT BE? - He said, but his voice sounded more quiet and careful. after thinking for a few seconds, Sans finally let go of his brother's soul, Papyrus wasn't blue anymore.
-FINALLY! THANK YOU, BROTHER! - and so Papyrus turned the doorknob and run to the Waterfall as fast as he could. He couldn't risk being any more late than he already was.

Sans knew his brother was hiding something, he could see it in his expression, voice, and even movements. plus on top of it, How could Papyrus forget about his training?! He NEVER missed any chances to train with his friend and captain of the royal guard, Undyne. even when he was feeling unwell!

Usually, Papyrus treated his training with Undyne very seriously. and now he just forgets about it? Does that mean he doesn't care about it anymore? But it was his biggest dream to join the royal guard!

And the fact that he was lying about being fine, if he really was fine, he wouldn't be crying!

Wait. Papyrus actually lied? but he NEVER lies! something is seriously wrong and he knew that. Sans promised himself that he would find out what happened as soon as his brother will come back from training.
