Remembering. - Thomas.

"Hey," A voice called from behind. Currently I was sitting on a log looking at the grass-thinking of my new life that had started over three weeks ago.

A smile lit up on my face, seeing it was Thomas. He sat beside me on the log, taking in the scenery of the woods as well. "Hey," I smiled.

We sat in peaceful silence, continuing to observe the nature around us.

"So...have you remembered anything else?" He questioned.

I sighed, "No. Just my name, and a few bits and pieces of my family." He simply nodded, looking down. "I'm sorry," I apologized.

Thomas had informed me a few weeks ago, we were in a serious relationship before he was placed inside of the Glade.

We had dated for a few years, and I made him promise that he would try his best not to forget me and he didn't. Unfortunately, I did.

Once I had arrived in the Glade, Thomas thought our relationship would continue where it left off-but it's kind of hard to when every memory I have of us is gone.

I still find him attractive and I wouldn't mind having a relationship with him, but I couldn't imagine how he feels. He comes into this hellhole being in love with a girl, remembering everything about her- and I come in seeing him as nothing but a stranger.

"It's fine...we'll work through this." He assured, grabbing ahold of my hand.

THE NEXT MORNING

The next morning had rolled around, and Thomas and Minho had set off on their run. I watched as they ran into the maze, and I looked around making sure no one was watching me.

Even though it was completely idiotic- I had planned to enter in the maze and get stung by a Griever.

They say once you do you get some memories back, and I was hoping that once getting stung I would get some memories of me and Thomas.

Once making sure I was completely in the clear, I walked into the maze and looked around as I did so. I took off into a run making sure no one could see even a shadow of me, and once I was sure I was far enough inside- I slowed down to a walk.

Minutes after minutes had passed, and not a Griever in sight. I knew they were more common at night, but at times they do come out in the day- I think.

What felt like hours had passed, when I realized I was completely lost.

"Thomas!" I called, hoping he'd hear me and guide me home. "Minho!" I shouted, hoping someone would come and find me. "Other one's?!" I exclaimed, not knowing the other runners name's.

No one had responded, and seconds later a loud inhuman scream occurred. My eyes widened, recognizing it as a Griever.

Within seconds, the owner of the inhuman sound stood before me.

It released a loud screech once again, as I took off in a sprint.

At first the idea of getting stung was great, but then after coming face to face with one of those things- I changed my mind.

My small legs were no match for the big spider machine thing, and within seconds I felt a needle prick into my neck.

I released a painful scream due to the burning sensation, and then hit the ground.

Everything around me became a blur, as purple blotches soon clouded my vision- then turning my world black.

Within moments- multiple memories began hitting me at once:

*

"I'm Thomas." The cute brown eyed boy introduced, after apologizing a numerous amount of times for bumping into me.

"Y/N." I smiled.

A smile made its way onto his face, as we held eye contact.

*

"I don't know what I'd do without you." I smiled, standing across from him with my hands in my jacket pockets on the cold November night.

"I'm in love with you." Thomas blurted out.

My cheeks flashed red due to his words, words I had been wanting him to say since our friendship blossomed.

"What?" I asked, needing to hear it a second time.

"I'm in love with you, and I'm sorry if this makes things awkward between us now, but--"

I quickly walked towards him once removing my hands from my pocket, and placed my hands onto the side of his face as I dipped his head down therefore I could press my lips onto his.

*

"Merry Christmas!" A voice exclaimed, planting a kiss onto my cheek.

I turned, seeing Thomas. "Ah, ah- we're under the mistletoe," I smiled. A large smile soon took over his face as well, and he then planted his lips onto mine.

*

'Thomas, stop!" I giggled, feeling as his lips attached to every spot on my face.

"If you want me to stop, why are you laughing?" He teased as he continued.

*

I rolled over, seeing my boyfriend laying on his side- now facing me. His eyes were closed as he slept peacefully.

My hand began running through his hair, causing his eyes to flutter open. "What are you doing?" He mumbled, groggily.

His eyes tiredly re-shut, "I'm admiring your hair."

"Admire from afar," He turned over.

"But I love you!" I teased, rolling halfway onto him. He abruptly turning over, straddling my body underneath his.

"Well I love you too, but I also love sleeping." He chuckled, placing a kiss onto my forehead.

*

"You know what? Fine- leave! See if I care!" I screamed, watching as Thomas walked out of the front door.

"I will!" He screamed back.

"I can't believe you're being so selfish! How could you just leave me, your fucking family and go into the maze?" I exclaimed.

"I can't keep watching these people suffer," He defended.

"Than, take them out!" I threw my hands into the air, aggravated.

"It's not that easy!" He defended.

"Yes it is- you don't have to do this to people." I informed.

"You don't understand." He scoffed, continuing to his car.

"Thomas!" I shouted, causing him to stop in place. "If you get in that car..we're done." I threatened, hoping it would work. But it didn't.

he simply turned around, "I go tomorrow- four o'clock. I really hope you come and say goodbye." And with that, he got into his car.

*

I ran through the double doors, leading to the room they used to sent off the different teenagers into the God- awful maze.

I ran throughout the hallways, going as fast as I could to find Thomas.

I rushed through the door, seeing him sitting on the bed- waiting patiently. Currently, no one was in the room but us.

I quickly wrapped my arms around him, not able to control the tears coming from my eyes.

"Don't cry..." He cooed, rubbing a hand over the back of my head.

"Please don't leave me," I begged.

"I'll make it out, for you- I promise." He stated. I pulled away, looking into his eyes, his thumbs wiping the tears away.

"You can't promise something like that." I sniffled.

"I am- because I will. I love you, Y/N Y/LN, and if that means I have to go on these crazy, suicide missions just to make it out- I will do that everyday as long as I'm there." He assured.

"Than why are you leaving?" I mumbled.

"To give the others a chance...it's been years and they're still not out."

"Thomas, they're ready for you." A lady informed, walking in.

I watched as he stood up, a sigh escaped from me knowing I couldn't follow him. "Thomas." I called, right before he stepped out of the room.

He turned to me. "Promise me you'll give everything you have to not forget me."

Thomas nodded, "I promise."

I hurriedly walked over, placing a kiss onto his lips- knowing it very well could be the last time ever.

*

"I want to go- let me in!" I exclaimed.

"Ma'am, we don't allow girls in that maze--"

"Jansen..maybe we should," A lady suggested.

"Have you lost your mind?!" He exclaimed.

"Thomas is in there...maybe putting her inside would allow his focus to be more accurate. Right now, he's a wreck, he misses her more than he thought was possible." She exclaimed.

He sighed, "Fine. But she's the last one- ever."

*

My eyes shot open, as did my body. No one was inside the room I was in- causing panic to strike into me. I quickly unraveled the covers, and right as I went to step out of the bed the door to the room opened, revealing Newt.

"You're awake." His eyes widened as he walked towards me. He placed his hand onto my forehead, "You feel fine."

"Where's Thomas?" I asked, and it was then I remembered where I had been stung.

How did I get in here?

"How did I get in here? What--"

"Thomas had heard you call his name, along with Minho's. He had found you just in time before the Griever had actually killed you. Minho had created a distraction long enough for Thomas to run you out," Newt explained.

I sighed, knowing Thomas must have been terrified.

"Where is he?" I questioned.

"Asleep. He's been in here ever since the incident- Alby finally convinced him to go take a proper nap." He explained.

"That's not necessary." A voice interrupted coldly, from the doorway. Newt and I looked, seeing Thomas.

"I'll give you two some privacy." Newt announced, standing up. He closed the door behind him as Thomas stepped closer.

"Thomas—"

"No, Y/N, just- no." He snapped. My eyebrows furrowed as he continued. "What the shuck were you thinking?! Why would you go inside of the maze in the first place? I-I don't even- who does that?!" He exclaimed, angrily.

"Me. I wanted to remember." I informed. He looked to me as I continued. "I wanted to remember at least some part of our relationship."

"Well I hope you got what you wanted- because in the end, you scared the shuck out of me and I would've rather you not even remember my name." He stated, sharply.

"Why are you so mad at me?" I asked.

"Because if you die- I die. Mentally, physically, and probably even literally. I can't even began to imagine my life without you, and the fact you would risk your life so easily just for a few memories..."

"I'm sorry!" I exclaimed, tears brimming my eyes. I tried doing this for him, us. And in the end he hates me for it. He shook his head, looking down. "I do remember," I spoke up, causing him to look at me. "I remember the first time we met, the first time you told me you loved me, random cuddles and kisses, I remember our fight before you left, I remember me begging them to put me here because my life without you was horrible. I woke up in the middle of the night, crying, because I didn't know if you were still alive." I explained, shakily.

"Y/N—"

"If you want to hate me, fine, hate me. Hate me for going into the maze, but just remember you put me in the exact same position when you came here to begin with." I snapped.

"Hate you? I could never hate you, Y/N. Do I think what you did was incredible stupid? Selfish? Shucking crazy? Yeah, but I could never hate you for it." He admitted.

We both looked everywhere but each other's eyes, until I finally spoke up. "What does this mean for us?" I asked.

"That maybe we should take a break." He stated, a huge sigh occurring afterwards.

As much as I hated to admit it, he was right. We needed time to think, time to get our memories back- time to focus on getting out of here.

I slowly nodded. "Maybe we should." I physically felt my heart shatter as he walked towards the door.

"I'll see you around." He nodded.

I only nodded in response, holding back the tears until he was out of the room. Once he had closed the door behind him, the tears slowly began traveling down my cheeks. My eyes squeezed shut, trying to get rid of them incase someone else walked in.

"It's just a break..." I continued muttering to myself, simply so I wouldn't breakdown.
