A Kiss in the Rain

A very sunny afternoon and a walk in the meadow

Across the fields and down to the babbling brook

Under the big blue sky and above the green grass

Wind blowing from the south and whipping my hair

Clouds pure white slowing drift across the heavens

A beautiful picnic under an apple blossom tree

Another walk down the lane and over the hill

Picking wildflowers and making daisy chains

Cheeks so red from the sizzling summer sun

Eyes a glowing with unhindered excitement

Goosebumps covering my arms with a chill

Titling my chin up noticing the darkening clouds

There's a drip and suddenly it's pouring

The tree provides no cover so it's a race to the barn

Making it inside just as the thunder begins

A flash of lighting streaks across the sky

A man is running towards me from over yonder

Wait, could it be him to whom my heart belongs

Heart beats increasing, color to my cheeks rising

The young man whom I've known my whole life

No more hiding in this barn I'm on my way my love

Catching my eye, you turn and time stands still

Only yards apart at the same moment we run

The distance between us decreasing by the second

Then barely a foot separating us held for but a moment

Leaping into your arms and holding so tight

You're stronger now and you've grown so much

Look at little me a woman now no longer a girl

My eyes search your face for a sign of what to do

You meet my gaze titling your head ever so slightly

And I in turn do the same coming closer

No longer am I freezing though the rain still falls

Warmth spreads throughout me as our lips meet

Softly tenderly we kiss your hand in my hair -

Your thumb against my chin, my arms wrap around your neck

Lasting mere seconds and yet feeling like forever

Can't tear my eyes from yours can't bear to look away

Standing here with you makes anything seem possible

A dazzling smile a beating heart and eyes crystal blue

That's what I see and feel when I look at you

Loving you tender and loving you true

We are meant for each other this I promise you

Reaching for your hand gripping tight you lead the way

Back over the hill and the babbling brook

Through the meadow and across the bridge

Everything glistens with dozens of raindrops

The wind is still blowing producing a chill

But nothing can hide my warmth and comfort

My journal shall hold this story within its pages

The title of this story must be perfect

Love is pouring from my heart deep within my soul

Forgetting not our precious kiss in the rain
