Part 2 chapter 6

“What are you eating?” Peter asked whilst perched on a skyscraper, mask resting just above his nose.

“Pot noodle” I said, putting another forkful in my mouth “I’ve been so hungry lately it’s actually mental”

“Are we back on three o’clock movies and ice cream trips?” I grinned sheepishly.

“Hey, you’ll miss that if you go off to College”

“I’d only be an hour away”

“And you’ll do great” I reassured him, knowing that he still wasn’t fully convinced “it could be fun”

“I know, you’d have to take over as Spiderman whilst I’m gone” I snorted at his joke, shaking my head.

“I think people would be confused as to why Spiderman suddenly grew boobs”

“God, I’d love to see the Daily Bugles report for that one” we shared a laugh, and I dug around in my cupboard to see if I had any crackers. “Where did you go?” his voice sounded from my phone, which I had left on the island in the middle of the kitchen.

“I’m just looking for some crackers,” I trailed off when I couldn’t find any “might pop to the shop”

“You want some company?”

“Hmm I don’t know, does Spiderman have time for a simple civilian nowadays?”

“He might have time for his wife” I couldn’t help but blush every time he referred to me that way, “I’ll see you in a minute”

“Coolio, love you”

“You have no idea” we switched off and I shoved on some shoes, grabbing my bag before heading down the stairs and to the lobby.

“Good afternoon” The door man greeted, and I tipped my head at him, returning the greeting happily.

“Bloody hell it’s cold” the crisp wind had me wishing I bought a jacket with me. I wrapped my arms tightly around my middle, cruising through the crowd in search of my boyfriend. A few gasps sounded and I saw people pointing to a shape swinging across town.

I wonder who that could be. A smile curved onto my face as my heart fluttered.

I waited on the corner of an alley, knowing he couldn’t be far.

“Hello Ma’am, heard you needed a lift?” Bugboy landed next to me with a wink.

“well, I wouldn’t say no to that” he grabbed the back of my thigh and lifted my legs around his waist.

“buckle up darling” I tucked my head into his neck before he jumped into the air, swinging us away with a whoop. His arm wrapped around my waist and he backflipped us through the air and I shrieked as I felt my stomach flip, feeling his chest vibrate.

“ass” I smacked his shoulder watching the tiny people on the street as we flew past.

“where did you want to go? 7/11?”

“yeah I’m not fussy to be fair”

“this is your captain speaking, we will be landing outside 7/11 in T- 20 seconds”

“don’t break your knees please” I braced, tightening my legs, and feeling his hand on my ass as we descended to the floor “easy there Spiderman” he laughed at my warning tone, eye pieces narrowing as he titled his head at me.

“you do realise everyone knows we’re dating?”

“I know, I blame Nat. If she hadn’t had said anything at the bloody press event no one would know” there was no hate if anything it was quite funny. I gained almost a thousand followers in a day. yeah. Luckily, I didn’t really post couple pictures with me and Peter and just focused on the places I go to and more aesthetic posts. Thank god.

I headed in whilst Peter stayed outside, keeping watch I guess. I got some Oreos, twizzlers, leaving the soft drinks seeing as we were swinging. I heard people talking nearby, paying it no mind as I looked through the crisp aisle.

“hey Jenny!” I turned and arms wrapped around me causing me to tense up immediately, the young woman hugging me was sweaty.

“hey?” she pulled back with a smile and I couldn’t help the confused look on my face, but her eyes told a story. Something wasn’t right.

“it’s been so long since I’ve seen you! Did you want to go and grab some coffee? Maybe at yours?” she stayed facing me but her eyes darted left, where I could see someone with a baseball cap looking at the medicine section intently.

“yeah of course, let me just buy these and then we can head out?” she nodded, staying close to me as we walked to the till “he’s following you?” I asked in a hushed whisper and once again she nodded, glancing back anxiously. “what’s your name?”

“Sarah, please help me” I put my arm around her, paying the cashier.

“don’t worry” I leant over the counter slightly to the old man “can you stall that guy with the hat? He’s being a bit creepy?”

“you ladies want me to call the cops?” I looked at Sarah, leaving the decision to her but she shook her head and the old man promised he would do his best and advised us to get somewhere safe fast.

“Thank you, have a nice day” we left, and I noticed the lack of my boyfriend instantly, my heart sinking. Where did he go?

“Do you live near here?”

“I’m staying with my friend in her flat, I’m new to the city” great.

“okay, no worries, there’s a hotel a few blocks from here, we could wait there and then call a cab to where you’re staying?”

“yeah okay, thank you so much”

“don’t mention it, you did the right thing” I heard the little bell to the store distantly and fished out my phone.

“he’s still there” her voice shook, and I could feel her panic.

“I know, let me call my boyfriend and see if he can meet us” the phone began to ring but went to voicemail and I took a deep breath “okay. Are you any good at running?”

“I did track at high school?” her baby blue eyes stared at me in terror.

“perfect, take my phone and follow it to the hotel. Wait inside if you can, and if anyone calls, tell them what’s happening.”

“what- where are you going?”

“I’m going to talk to him. Not literally. But I’ll distract him long enough for you- “the sound of footsteps made me stop. Running footsteps. Sarah couldn’t help but scream as I pushed her away, tackling the man before he could grab her.

“Go!” I yelled at her frozen form, struggling with the man who thankfully wasn’t holding a lot of muscle. I heard her running and almost let out a sigh of relief, before I received a punch to the ribs which gave the guy the opportunity to push me off him as I rolled on the floor.

“you fucking bitch” he spat at me, trying to get up but I kicked his feet out from under him.

“I’ll take bitch over nonce” I retorted, taking another punch with a groan. I balled my fist up and hit him straight in the face as hard as I could, stunning him momentarily and stumbling to my feet. I couldn’t see Sarah, which was a good sign, but I was getting nervous now, this guy wasn’t as easy to keep down as I thought, and I contemplated running off after her.

“Just piss off, you ain’t got any chance.” He didn’t pay much heed to my words, and I backed up, dodging a few punches that came my way before using a lamppost to propel my body towards him, kicking him in the chest hard enough to put him back on the floor. He staggered to his feet but instead of coming my way he stumbled away, muttering angrily with a thick glare on his face.

“oh, thank god” I picked up my snacks and began to make my way down the block, the brief spots of light against the pitch-black sky were a comfort to say the least. Still no sign of Peter and I prayed he was either on his way or had found Sarah and was helping her.

“There! That’s her!” I froze before realising it was only Sarah. She had made it.

“Ma’am? Are you okay?” Bugboy rushed over, his chest rising and falling rapidly with anxiety, and I put my hands on his shoulders with a smile.

“perfectly fine, the guy went the other way.” I peeked my head past him to see Sarah shifting on her feet. “you okay Sarah?”

“yeah I’m fine, I can’t believe you fought that guy off” she praised, coming over to give me my phone. “are you okay? What happened?”

“we talked.” She cracked a smile as Peter stared down the dark road we had from. A taxi soon arrived for Sarah, who I gave my number to so she could text me once she made it home before she left.

“I’m so sorry I didn’t answer my phone” Peter apologised immediately “I got caught up talking to this cop near the ATM- “

“hey, it’s alright, if I was that worried I would’ve yelled, or called Tony. It’s fine now” he sulked a bit, but I was quick to soften him up with a few masked kisses and loving on him.

“looks like I’ll have to buy you a new jumper”

“a jumper? For what?” I chuckled, looking up at him.

“well, yours got ruined by the slush spilling all down it. I didn’t realise they’d ran out of blueberry” I looked down at my top as he walked on a few steps, he was right. There was a stain all over the front of my top.

“Bug” he paused in his chatter, realising I wasn’t next to him and turning back.

“Al?” I met his covered eyes with panic lacing its way through my body. “what is it?”

“I didn’t buy a slush” my hands grasped the material shakily and I lifted the jumper up past my chest, unable to see the damage but Peter’s sharp intake was enough to tell me it wasn’t nothing.

“Karen call Tony” he spoke instantly, and he helped me lift off the jumper so he could press it against my wound. “shit shit shit shit shit”

“it’s okay, just apply pressure. Did it look bad?” I asked as he sat me on the side of the pavement, the reality not quite setting in.

“I don’t think it was deep, but I don’t know. We need a hospit- Tony Alex needs a hospital, she’s been stabbed.” He paused, staring through his gloved hands which pressed against my stomach “stomach, we’re using her jumper- yeah I know. Alright we’ll meet you there” he looked at me “Do you think you’ll be okay with me carrying you?”

“I mean, I can’t really feel it yet so yeah sure.” He picked me up and I felt pain shoot through my body, gritting my teeth. I could feel the wet on my hands as I kept my jumper against me, keeping my breathing calm despite my heart racing.

“sorry” he got us to the hospital in record time, taking us straight inside “I need a doctor!” he shouted, immediately people flooding over with a bed which I was gently placed on. The jumper was swapped for bandages and the doctors began to wheel me towards the ER. Peter had left my sight and as I tried to turn my head to look back the female doctor instructed me to stay still.

“Spiderman can’t be in the room unless he’s family I’m afraid”

“but- “

“I’m sorry but those are the rules” I sighed, resting my head back as they fussed over my wound.

“Got caught up in something pretty serious huh?” the man who was currently stitching me up asked and I could only let out a sound of pained agreement as I gripped the side of the bed, face scrunched up. “that Spider fellow of yours hasn’t left” he glanced up at me “you must mean quite a lot to each other”

“that’s classified I’m afraid” the joke elicited a chuckle, and I was glad he was having a good time.

“thankfully, the blade didn’t cut you that deep otherwise it could have been a completely different story. Especially the one so close to your lungs” he said. Yeah so basically the guy hadn’t just punched me, but he had shanked me. Lovely, I know. “we still haven’t been able to get a hold of any relatives but seeing as it’s a five-hour difference from here to the UK I can understand why. Do you have another emergency contact we can call?”

“Can’t I sign myself out?”

“I’m afraid in your state your still prone to drowsiness and being lightheaded which could lead to further self-injury or the possibility of tearing your stitches.” I hissed as he pulled at a particularly tender area.

“sorry” he muttered, cutting the surgical string stuff. “uh yeah I have another number but I’m kind of hoping he’ll turn up soon”

“oh? Another superhero friend to the rescue?” I pressed my lips together.

“something like that. Thank you for being patient with me”

“of course, just make sure to take care of yourself. Any problems feel free to come on back. I’ll send a nurse in to get the number from you until your friend shows up” and with a smile he left me alone in the room.

It was weirdly quiet just sat in a white room, knowing Peter was outside somewhere, hopefully not freaking out too much. He also had my phone which was a bit of an L.
