Chapter 6

Sometimes, when motivation pops up, I find it hard to multi-task in my life.

Often, I find myself spending long periods of time doing one thing and forgetting that I had a life outside of my flat.

Which is what I had been doing for the entire week.

I had finally finished Peter’s suit designs, having just sent them away to Tony for him to review.

I set my computer down, stretching whilst my back clicked, noticing the stream of orange rays peeking through my curtains.

“great” I murmured to myself; another day missed.

Fuck it, may as well go, and get some food. Help me clear my mind, which was still half focused on which shade of red Pete’s suit needed.

I did my usual routine, showering and putting some warm clothes on before doing my hair and teeth. It wasn’t freezing but it wasn’t exactly warm, so I pulled on a pair of thermal tights with a midi black dress over the top.

“Alexa, set a timer for ten minutes” I hollered to the AI as I applied some eyeliner, pausing momentarily so I wouldn’t smudge it.

“Your ten-minute timer has been set” I didn’t want to lose track of time, knowing that if I left in ten minutes, I would make it to the bakery just before it closed.

I threw on some boots and a coat before hurrying out of my flat, shoving my keys into my bag as I moved towards the lift.

I shivered as I walked along the pavement, my hands shoved deep into my pockets.

Okay, maybe a little colder than I expected. But the bakery wasn’t far, only two blocks from here, I could practically see the steam wafting from the fresh pies from here.

“Evening Miss” a man greeted me as he re-tied his apron around his waist “what can I get for Ya?”

“Um, could I have a raspberry and white chocolate muffin please?”

“Coming right up” he picked up his tongs and used them to put my selected muffin into a little bag, ringing me up and I paid him in cash, leaving the shop with a smile.

It smelt amazing and I couldn’t wait to enjoy it once I got home.

I decided to go a slightly different route, having seen a group of guys hanging around an alley on my way down, knowing that if I went back that way it would only cause trouble.

I took a route that wasn’t too far from the Tower, following a path behind an old ice cream shop that led underneath a bridge.

It was quiet, the sun was low, and blue began to dust across the sky, preparing the stars for their nightly show.

“what’s a pretty girl like you, doing in a place like this?” I span around to see the bright red suit of my favourite spider hanging upside down from a lamppost.

“shouldn’t I be asking you that? I thought you had decathlon tonight?” I walked over with a smile, and he lowered himself until we were eyelevel.

“Got cancelled, thought I’d patrol for a bit, you know it’s not safe down this way” he warned, and I could almost imagine his smile beneath the mask.

“Beats the lads down the alley on main” he couldn’t argue with me there “you want a muffin? Its raspberry and chocolate?” he jumped down, landing on his feet gracefully.

“You just bought it” I placed it in his hands before we began walking.

“I didn’t want it anyway” his metabolism was way faster than mine and I knew he didn’t eat that much in school, so the least I could do was give him my muffin.

“you’re quiet” he observed, taking a bite of the muffin “long day?”

“I didn’t sleep last night” I admitted sheepishly, “I didn’t even notice what time it was until I saw the sun going down”

“Greene” he tsked disapprovingly

“you need get some sleep; this is too common of a theme”

“I know, I know. I just wanted to get the designs done before the weekend”

I loved the way the lights reflected off his suit.

“here” he offered me the other half of the muffin and I refused, seeing the bottom half of his face grin as he pushed it closer to my mouth.

“open wide” he teased.

Reluctantly, I took a bite, humming at the flavour. It was really good.

“lovely” I told him through a mouthful of food. “thanks”

“Thank you” he replied happily, shooting the now empty wrapper into a passing bin as we approached the main road. “I can't wait to see it, you know”

“Same, it’s going to be sick”

“You need to make one for yourself, your own suit”

“As much as I’m tempted,” I began, moving closer to him as we passed a couple of dark alleys “I’m nowhere near you guy’s level”

“It would look cool though” I couldn’t help but agree, it would be mint.
