Chapter 2: Four Walls too Close for Comfort

"With all due respect sir are you sure this is a good idea?" Chekov spoke into communicator as he laid squirming for more  room in the cramped metal shaft.

"Yes Laddie" Scotty's thickly accented voice was hinted with slight frustration as it came from the communicator "that's the only way you can get to it ."

"I understand sir." Chekov replied his thick Russian accented tone filled with slight uncertainty.

Despite what the Scottish man had said Chekov was beginning to doubt the reassurance as he heard the metal straining underneath his weight, but orders were orders and he couldn't deny  his superior.

And so with his communicator  in hand he continued squirming through the uncomfortably cramped shaft. Wiggling his way through he felt like a hamster crawling through a plastic tube. Feeling cramped as he was trying to move scrunched up against the metal.

You might be wondering how Pavel Chekov ended up here. Wiggling  his way like a worm through the shaft that's walls of metal were to close together for his comfort.

Well he hadn't necessarily planed on doing this today. It just sort of happened. Scotty needed someone who was small enough to squirm through the ventilation shaft in order to reach a panel on the inside that controlled the electronic composer. Which he needed turned on for an some engineering job.

And well how Chekov ended up squeezed inside. He just happened to be what Scotty considered small enough to fit, and just happened to be passing by the engineering department on his way to his quarters.

When Scotty spotted him and asked for his help.

And so now here he was. Squeezed in between four pieces of steel trying to wiggle himself through.

Chekov continued on. Wiggling and squirming. Some what army crawling in away as he made his way through.

"Your almost there" Scotty's voice came from the communicator's speakers "it's going to be on you right."

Chekov struggled as he  wiggled his hand down to his pants pocket and pulled out the flash light. Clicking the top button a pale light illuminated itself from the flash light. Casting it's glow over the metal shaft.

He continued his way. Keeping his eyes focused on the flashlight's glow that he kept on the right wall.

Finally he came upon it. The rectanglar plastic box that had been placed on the wall of the saft.

"I've found it sir" Chekov spoke into his comminator.

"Alright open it up." Scotty voice came over the communicator "you should find a yellow switch inside."

Chekov followed the instructions opening the up the grey plastic box. Shining his light on the many buttons and switches that laid inside. His eyes looked around till they locked onto the sight of yellow switch.

"I've found it sir."

"Well go ahead there laddie turn the thing on."

Chekov brought his hand over and the turned the yellow switch.

"I turned it on sir"

"Ay good job. Get everything back to together there and come back."

"Aye sir."

Chekov set the flashlight down on the metal underneath him. The flashlight casted it pale glow down the rest up the saft as Pavel closed the grey box.

He was just about to pick it up when something that the flashlight was a illuminating caught his eye. And as he began to focus on what the pale glow was illuminating.

His eyes grew wide in shock as he stared as to what laid on the metal floor.
