alone

Meet me at the lookout.

Your eyes re-read the simple text. You were already sat at the top of the cliff lookout that you two considered your spot. You were nervous to see him because you still hadn't told him. You were 18 and pregnant. Of course, it was his. He was the only person you had ever slept with. As soon as you found out, you told your parents and best friend. But you couldn't tell Nick.

He was planning to move to Cali to be with his band. You knew that if you mentioned anything about the baby he would decline this opportunity. This opportunity of a life time. Nick needed to follow his dreams and you weren't going to sabotage that.

Footsteps started to form in the distance. Your hands began to shake. He was here. Not taking your eyes away from the city view, you refused to look at him as he sat down beside you. He took in a sharp breath. "So..." he trailed off. Your eyes finally broke away to look at him. Tears filled his eyes to the brim.

"So..." you trailed off as well. The wheels in your brain turned, trying to figure out what you should say. You needed to tell him about your baby that was growing inside you, but you didn't want him to stay and not join his band.

"I got news about the band," he paused, holding your hand in his, "I'm officially moving to LA with them."

A sad smile formed on your face. You were happy for your boyfriend of four years, but you were still disappointed he would be leaving. "That's good Nick. I'm proud of you." You went in for a quick kiss to the lips, but the boy you loved so dearly turned his head. Your lips landed on his cheek instead. Confused, you stared at his profile. He refused to look at you.

A tear finally fell down his cheek, "You know I love you, (your name)."

"I know," you shifted to completely face him, "And I love you, Nick."

"Okay," He paused again. You weren't prepared for what was going to happen next. "Then you have to understand that this is the end."

You knew what he meant. You knew that he was breaking up with you, but you didn't want to believe it. "The end of what?"

"The end of us (your name)."

Tears filled your own eyes. As much as you tried to blink them away, they fell down your face and wouldn't stop. With blurry vision and sobs ready to fall out of your mouth, you tried to say his name, "Nick..."

His eyes finally left the view to look at you. His expression looked even worse than yours if that was even possible. "I have to go," he muttered before standing up, leaving you all alone.

A month.

A month had passed since you last saw Nick. Every day you would lie in bed with no hope. You never told him about the baby. At this point, you didn't think he needed to know. He left. He left you by yourself. Sure he didn't know about his child at the time, but he was planning on leaving you in the first place.

You sat on the lookout for the first time in that month. You had just had your first sonogram. Your baby was healthy and you were fine in the physical health department. Your eyes stared down at the little picture the doctor had printed out for you. It was weird looking at your little baby. It was so tiny. You couldn't but think about Nick. You missed him dearly.

But he left you.

A single tear slipped down your cheek. When he first left, you thought you were all alone. Except you weren't. Your eyes flashed back down to the picture.

"It's just you and me, bub."
