| a game of chance |

"hayoon likes me more than you, kim!" changmin mocked the younger male.

"i've known hayoon longer than you have! she likes me more!" the younger retorted back.

the rest of them at the table sighed, except for eric and minju who were smothering each other with sweet nothings. the two males continued to bicker back and forth about their rankings in hayoon's list of friends. soon, hayoon arrived, arms linked with chanhee as they walked towards their friends' table while talking about matters in class.

"hayoon! thank goodness you're here!" kevin scrambled to the girl who had looked at him, totally confused. "stop them!" kevin screeched. she finally could see changmin and sunwoo on one anothers' nerves as they screamed a bunch of incoherent words. "i don't know how," hayoon softly told kevin as she started to get worried. "just do something!"

"i like kevin better!" hayoon shouted, making sure every person at their table heard her. it did stopped the loud bickerings, however, the two males were glaring at kevin this time. "oh my god- jesus take the wheel!" kevin yelped before scurrying away.

"you spent the whole day with her yesterday. it's my turn!" hayoon heard changmin said as she put down her bag onto the bench.

"this is a fair game of chance, ji changmin. there's no such thing as friends here," sunwoo reached out his hand to offer a deal.

"deal. we were never friends anyway," changmin smirked, sealing the deal as he shook sunwoo's hand.

the rest of the group shook their heads at the drama the two had put up. juyeon smacked the back of their heads, clicking his tongue. "take your filthy selves away from my sister, both of you!"

"great choice, babe!" the male cheered. hayoon chose to hang out with changmin that day. "call me 'babe' once more and i'll choose sunwoo," she glared at him playfully.

"it's a picnic date. i'll pick you up at 5pm, hayoon," changmin smiled as he dropped her off infront of her house. "do you need me to bring anything?" she questioned him, one hand reaching out to open the passenger door. "just bring your pretty self," the lad winked before hayoon slammed the door shut, chuckling to herself.

"time check - 3pm. great, i have two hours to myself," hayoon checked the time on her phone screen, strolling into the house. she had taken her own sweet time to dress up for the so-called 'date'. after almost one hour of rummaging her wardrobe, hayoon settled for a beige ditsy floral dress. "hm it does look picnic-worthy," the girl stared at her outfit in the mirror.

soon after, ji changmin arrived in a light-coloured flannel, a white shirt underneath and black pants. hayoon could tell that changmin had been preparing a lot for this at how the backseat was full of picnic things from the picnic mat, to the picnic basket filled with food and an ice storage of ice cream and cold beverages.

"woah! a pretty hayoon in a pretty dress!" he attempted to whistle.

"changmin, you can't whistle for shit," the girl laughed as she slid into the passenger seat.

they spent the late afternoon munching on the food and snacks as they talked about everything they could. it went from talking about how they first met to common likes and dislikes and to random facts about one another.

"i think chucky and annabelle has a thing with one another but they're hiding it from me," he said abruptly.

"what?" the girl sat, stunned at his statement.

"it's true! one day, i walked in on chucky carrying annabelle in his arms," changmin told the girl, his eyes went wide as if to emphasise that he was also shocked.

"are you sure you don't need any spiritual help in your house?"

the night time was spent with star gazing as they laid on the mat next to one another. their hands reaching out to point at the stars that they were gazing at.

"changmin, that looks like a cat,"

"no, that's a giraffe,"

"where did you even see a long neck?" hayoon scoffed.

it was a peaceful silence for abit as the skies turned darker from the dark blue shade to almost pitch black.

"even if we drift apart, just know that i'm there," he pointed up to the night sky where millions of star were scattered around,"looking over you."

hayoon must admit to herself that being with changmin was all exciting and giddy. changmin made her feel energetic and that it was okay to be expressive on first dates. eventhough it was a date, it felt more like a casual outing with someone she was very familiar with. ji changmin had prepared and gone through a lot, including almost physically fighting kim sunwoo, to let her experience this wonderful date. she would forever be thankful to changmin for making their first date enjoyable. however, her mind kept faltering to that one person and only him.
