Chapter Nine

It was an hour later when Sivaangi who finally composed herself left the room. She saw Ashwin working on his laptop in the living room. He lifted his head to give her a glance before fixing his eyes on his laptop making her roll her eyes at him before she walked inside the kitchen.

For someone who grew up pampered and in luxury, Sivaangi had no clue about cooking save for the food vlogs and food recipes she watches on You Tube. She was once overwhelmed with the urge to cook mushroom pasta that she stepped into the kitchen with a determination to cook only to burn the vessels.

Ever since Sivaangi refrained herself from cooking. But she was bored and there wasn't any food on the kitchen island. Her eyes fell on an air tight container that had penne pasta. So, she decided to do simple red sauce pasta.

But the problem was Sivaangi remember only half the recipe. She had no clue about the boiling time of pasta or how much seasoning to add or how many ingredients needed in total and to think that she had to cut down garlic and onion made her dizzy.

Sivaangi was almost at the brink of giving up the idea but now she craves for red sauce pasta. It has been long since she ate good food and in Sivaangi's dictionary good food means junk food and she badly want to eat red sauce pasta now.

So, bracing herself, Sivaangi made a face and took the pasta container. She searched the kitchen cabinet and took out mixed herbs, oregano, salt and pepper. She opened the fridge and made distaste faces on seeing beer tins on the side rack.

As she was searching for ketchup and sauces, Sivaangi's eyes fell on garlic and onion powder. Thanking her stars, she quickly grabbed it along with tomatoes and placed it on the kitchen island, a satisfied smile danced on her face as she saw all the ingredients lined up.

"Ipo recipe ku yenna panrathu?" Sivaangi wondered aloud, "Pesama Ashwin kitayeh ketruvom"

(What shall I do for recipe then?) (Let me ask Ashwin itself)

Sivaangi made up her mind and walked into the living room. She went behind the couch to speak to Ashwin.

"Ashwineyy, naan yethuvum ongala disturb panlayeh?" Sivaangi said placing her hand on Ashwin's shoulder making him jerk and close his laptop before looking up at her.

(Hope I haven't disturbed you)

Arching his neck to get a clear view of Sivaangi, Ashwin heaved a sigh before saying,

"Yenna disturb panrathu dhan unnoda fundamental right ah vachurukiyeh. Yenna nu solu"

(You have made disturbing me as your fundamental right. Tell me what is it)

"Eee, athu vandhu yenaku mobile venum, Ashwineyy. Kudunga" Sivaangi said standing in front of Ashwin.

(I want mobile. Give me)

Ashwin took a brief moment to look up and down at Sivaangi before shaking his head.

"Athellam thara mudiyathu" Ashwin denied.

(No)

"Yethuku?" Sivaangi frowned walking closer.

(But why?)

"Nee patu enoda veetu location ah leak panita na? Inga irundhu escape aaga plan pot-"

(What if you leak my house's location? What if you make plans to escape fro-)

"Hello Mr. hold your horses. Neenga le veliya po nu sonalum naan inga irundhu poga maten ithula escape ah? No no no no" Sivaangi shook her head.

(Even if you ask me to go out, I won't. Then how will I escape?)

"Oho" Ashwin maintained a straight face hiding his amusement making her roll her eyes at him.

(Oh)

"Mobile kudunga, Ashwineyy. Enaku You Tube pakanum. Bore adikuthu" Sivaangi said with an annoyed face that looked like a kitten pouting that Ashwin couldn't help but chuckle.

(Give me mobile. I want to watch You Tube. I'm bored)

"Athuku yen di moonji ah ipdi vaikura?" Ashwin smiled as he said making Sivaangi wonder.

(Why are you making faces now?)

'Yenna ivaru sirikuraru? Yenna achu indha manushanuku? Ice varutho?' Sivaangi thought and then trained her eyes at Ashwin.

(Why is he smiling? What happened to him? Are things working out between us?)

"Ipo tharinga la ilaya?" Sivaangi grumbled standing her ground.

(Give it!)

"Aii, yenna di, enayeh meratura" Ashwin rolled his eyes at Sivaangi.

(Are you threatening me?)

"Ada kudu, Ashwineyy" Sivaangi deadpanned.

(Give me)

Ashwin took a glance at Sivaangi. On seeing her stance, he couldn't help but adore her. Normally he wouldn't have but pushing his cautious instincts at the back of his head, he grabbed the I-pad that was beside him on the couch, operated it before giving it to her.

"Password remove paniten. Nee use paniko, password venum na potu vachuko" Ashwin said extending it to Sivaangi.

(I have removed password. If you want you can set up one)

"Enaka?" Sivaangi asked excitedly as she got the gadget from Ashwin.

(For me)

"Ama, batharama vachuko ila child lock mode yethuvum potu tharava?" Ashwin couldn't help but tease a little on seeing her kitty cat face.

(Yes, be careful or do you want me to activate child lock mode?)

"Child lock ah?" Sivaangi glared at Ashwin offendedly as she looked up and down before leaning forward towards him making him stare right at her, "Kalyanam matum aagatum, next year onga madila indha laptop ku pathila namma kolandhai irukum. Aprm yenna solringa nu papom"

(Let us get married first. Then you'll have our child in your lap in the place of your laptop. Let's see how you'll tease me then)

Ashwin's heart skipped a beat when Sivaangi mentioned child. Something shifted within him as his orbs met hers. His eyes breathed in her proximity as he watched her twist her lips at him before she walked away with the I-pad.

It took couple of minutes for Ashwin to regain himself. He shook his head as he looked at the direction where she walked off.

"Dhamma thundu irundhutu enaya ena enamoh panriyeh di" Ashwin muttered under his breath as he exhaled deeply.

(Can't translate)

Shaking his head, Ashwin decided to push those thoughts to the back of his head and focus on the job at hand. Rathore's assignment is hanging on the cliff as raid messed up with the process. He has convinced Rathore and bought some time to complete the assignment.

So, Ashwin focused his mind into getting the work done and stuck to his laptop while Sivaangi went on with the cooking process. Yes, she got the I-pad from him so that she can look up recipes but the cooking process prolonged as she ended up watching few vlogs of her favorite You Tubers before she saw the actual recipe. By the time she was half done and wanted Ashwin to taste sauce, she put it in a bowl and went to living room.

"Ashwin" Sivaangi stood in front of Ashwin.

"Yenna?" Ashwin asked without looking up from his laptop making Sivaangi roll her eyes at him.

(What?)

"Inga parunga" Sivaangi called again.

(Look here)

"Yenna nu solu, enaku kekum" Ashwin's eyes were focused on the screen.

(Tell me what is it. I can hear you)

"Parava ila, inga paru, Ashwineyy" Sivaangi deadpanned poking her finger in his arm.

(But I want you to look)

"Yenna di? Yennatha pakanum?" Ashwin asked annoyed as he lifted his eyes to look at Sivaangi who was holding a bowl in one hand and a spoon in another hand that's extended towards him.

(What? What do I have to see?)

"Yenna ithu?" Ashwin asked eyeing at the spoon, his face soften on seeing Sivaangi's face.

(What's this?)

"Ithu naan prepare panathu, epdi iruku nu taste pani solunga, Ashwinn" Sivaangi said excitedly as she extended the spoon towards Ashwin's mouth.

(I prepared this. Taste and tell me how is it)

Ashwin stared at Sivaangi for a brief moment before eyeing the spoon. Shaking his head slightly, he opened his mouth and she fed him excitedly. He swallowed the hot liquid with his eyes trained on her curious face, his eyes taking in the myriad of expression dancing on her face.

"Yepdi iruku?" Sivaangi asked as she couldn't contain her excitement.

(How's it?)

"Hmmm nala iruku" Ashwin commented making Sivaangi smile widely but her smile turned into a frown when he said, "Tomato soup la salt matum kammi ah iruku, pepper kuda innum podalam"

(Good) (There's less salt in tomato soup. You can add pepper as well)

"Tomato soup ah?!" Sivaangi frowned making Ashwin look up at her.

"Pinna?" Ashwin stared cluelessly as he looked at an offended Sivaangi.

(What else?)

"Aiyoo Ashwineyy, ithu tomato soup ila!" Sivaangi said slapping her hand against her forehead and whined, "Ithu red sauce, Ashwineyy. Red sauce pasta kaga panathu!"

(Omg! That's not tomato soup, Ashwineyy) (Its red sauce, I prepared it for red sauce pasta!)

"Yendha oor la di red sauce ipdi irukum?" Ashwin rolled his eyes at Sivaangi before fixing it on his laptop screen, "Itha dhura thuki potutu agura velai ah paru, po. Chapati yethachum panikalam"

(Is this red sauce?) (Throw it away and do something useful. We can make chapati for dinner)

"Neenga chapati lam panuvinga la?" Sivaangi asked in wonder, forgetting that he disapproved her red sauce.

(You know how to prepare chapati?)

"Pinna nee ah? Neram iruku la, senju tharen. Ipo po, pasicha carrot eduthu sapdu, po" Ashwin waved her off and fixed his eyes on his laptop.

(Who else would prepare then? You? We still have time right, I'll do. If you are hungry then go eat a carrot)

"Aana enaku ipo red sauce pasta sapdanum pola irukey!" Sivaangi exclaimed and poked Ashwin's arms again continuously as an attempt to gain his attention, "Ashwineyy, enaku red sauce pasta venum"

(But I crave for red sauce pasta) (I want red sauce pasta, Ashwineyy)

"Athu lam mudiyathu!" Ashwin grunted holding Sivaangi's finger from poking his arm.

(No)

"Mudiyatha? Yenna aalu neenga? Onnu enaku order pani kudunga ilana senju kudunga Ashwinn!" Sivaangi deadpanned as she released her finger from his hold and placed both her hands on her hips.

(No? What kinda person you are? Either you order the food or prepare for me yourself)

"Raid issue eh ipo dhan mudinchu, order lam panni thara mudiyathu" Ashwin said in a bored tone as he focused on his laptop screen.

(Raid issue just ended. We can't order now)

"Naan senja red sauce ah tomato soup nu soninga la, neenga enaku ipo red sauce pasta senju tharanum. DOT" Sivaangi deadpanned and jabbed her finger into Ashwin's arm making him look up at her.

(You found fault with the red sauce I made right. Now you have to prepare red sauce pasta for me. period)

"Enaku vera velai ila paru, po di" Ashwin gently pushed Sivaangi's finger and turned to his laptop.

(As if I have no other jobs)

"Amma!" A loud hiss escaped Ashwin's lips when Sivaangi smacked on his arms making him rub the spot as he looked up at her, "Yethuku di yenna adicha!"

(Why did you hit me?!)

"Apo neenga senju thara matinga, apdi dhana" Sivaangi glared at Ashwin and wordlessly walked away into the kitchen making him frown at the direction she went before he sighed.

(So, you won't cook for me right!)

"Ada raama" Ashwin grumbled aloud, placed his laptop aside, stood up and walked into the kitchen with a grumpy face.

(Oh lord!)

"Itha par-" Ashwin started as he walked into the kitchen but paused when he saw the condition of his kitchen and exclaimed, "Adi pavi, yenna di pani vachuruka enoda kitchen ah!"

(See-) (What have you done to my kitchen!)

Sivaangi decided to ignore Ashwin's words as she sat on the kitchen slab, her arms pursed together while dangling her legs. A cute angry pout sat on her face as she stared at the floor.

'Aiyayo kochikita pola iruku' Ashwin thought to himself as he walked inside the kitchen.

(She's angry it seems)

Ashwin saw the messy kitchen island. He saw the stove. Pasta wasn't drained from the hot water even though the stove was off. He looked at Sivaangi who was making angry faces at the floor that was way too adorable.

Biting back the smile that threatened to escape his lips, Ashwin took a strainer and strained the pasta from hot water. He then washed the pasta under cold water before drizzling it with olive oil and set aside.

Ashwin cleared the messy kitchen island and tasted the red sauce again. He poured it into a blender, made it into a smooth paste before putting it on a vessel and placed it on the stove.

By the time Ashwin was done with red sauce pasta, he looked at Sivaangi whose eyes kept darting to him every few seconds. She would look at him but then shake her head and avert her gaze before looking at him again and repeat. He smiled at her and transferred pasta into a vessel and walked out of the kitchen with it.

Sivaangi frowned when Ashwin walked away with food. Her frown turned into pout thinking he's off to eat without her and her pout turned into a sad face when he didn't even bother to convince her. She bit her lips and stared at the floor.

But Sivaangi looked up with scrunched eyebrows when she saw Ashwin's feet in front of her. She looked up to see him in front of her.

"Namaku pasta senjuten. Sapda va Sivaangi" Ashwin said softly as his eyes took in her visibly upset face.

(I have cooked pasta for us. Come to eat, Sivaangi)

Hearing her name from Ashwin's lips, Sivaangi felt good. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it in mid before zipping her mouth shut and averted her gaze. She was still upset.

Ashwin lifted his hand and tugged Sivaangi's hair strands behind her ear making her look up at him.

"Kovam vendam, sapda va" Ashwin said letting his fingers linger near her hair, his fingers barely brushing against her earlobe sending shivers down her spine.

(Don't be angry. Come, let's eat)

"Ila...enaku vena-" Sivaangi stammered as she looked away.

(No... I don't wan-)

"Vendam nu solatha. Unaku venum nu enaku theriyum" Ashwin said softly cupping Sivaangi's right cheek in his palm making her look at him. He then added, "Enakum venum nu enaku theriyum"

(Don't say that you don't it. I know you do) (I also know that I want it too)

Sivaangi wasn't sure if Ashwin was just talking about pasta. His words, even though it was obscure, it warmed her heart. She placed her hand on his hand that rested on her cheeks and jumped down from the kitchen slab by holding his other arm for support.

The duo wordlessly walked towards the dining table. They sat side by side and Ashwin served them. Sivaangi's eyes brightened at the sight of food and her mouth watered as the aroma of food hit her nostrils.

"Taste pani pathu epdi iruku nu solu" Ashwin urged Sivaangi to eat as he placed generous amount of pasta on her plate.

(Taste and let me know how it is)

Sivaangi nodded enthusiastically letting her anger go in a moment and dig in the pasta. It tasted so good that an appreciative moan escaped her lips making Ashwin's eyes go wide. He gulped when she her moan prolonged as she relished her food.

'Aiyo, iva ipdi moan panrathu namaku danger achey' Ashwin thought to himself as he shifted his legs awkwardly.

(Her moaning is dangerous for me!)

"Pasta epdi iruku nu solala?" Ashwin asked gaining Sivaangi's attention.

(How's the pasta?)

"Ashwineyy!! Pasta vera level po!" Sivaangi commented making Ashwin smile, "Nalla creamy ah, tangy ah, out of the world uh"

(Delicious! Its very creamy and tangy)

"Nejama nala iruka?" Ashwin asked with a smile on seeing Sivaangi back. Her being silent upsets him deeply; he has no clue why and he doesn't even want to know.

(Is it really good)

"Continental chef ke tough kudukura alavu super ah panirukinga, Ashwineyy" Sivaangi appreciated wholeheartedly as she pat Ashwin's arm. He smiled at her and played along to cheer her.

(You cook as good as a contentinental chef)

"Yenna panrathu, unaku valkai full ah samachu kottanum nu enn thalai la eludhiruku. Ithellam kathu vachurukathu nalladhu dhan, unna samalika use agum"

(What to do? I have to feed you through out my life. So, such cooking skills would come handy in handling you)

"Neenga enaku samachu kottuna ipo yenna thappu" Sivaangi twisted her lips at Ashwin but stiffened for a moment when her mind processed his words. Gasping, she looked at him and asked, "Ashwineyy, ipo nee yenna sonna?"

(What's wrong in you cooking for me?) (Wait, what did you say?!)
