Heart Condition ~ Sunoo🥀(School AU)

For this, I looked a quite a few different diseases to try and find one that I was hoping to suit this best, and I chose Coronary Heart Disease. I can't promise that this will be completely accurate but I will try. Coronary Heart Disease is a deadly heart disease that can be managed with treatments to lessen the chances of deadly heart attacks. What happens is plaque builds up in the arteries in the heart which constricts blood flow. Also, let me say, this oneshot is pretty long.

Sunoo woke up to the blaring of his alarm, he felt frustrated that he couldn't find anything better to hear in the mornings. He rolled over, cut his alarm off, and closed his eyes again. After a few minutes, he could hear his mother yelling for him, "Sunoo get up! I know you're still in bed!" she yelled from downstairs. Sunoo sighed and got up, "I have like three tests today," he mumbled getting out of bed in search of his uniform. After a few minutes, and a hair crisis, Sunoo was ready. He found his way downstairs with his bag quickly. "You're lucky you got down here in time. I almost was about to leave," his mother said kissing him on the forehead. "Bye, you two! I love you! Sunoo don't forget your pills!" She said rushing to the door, her work schedules always were weird. "You better eat, we need to start heading to the bus stop in like 10 minutes," his older said typing something on her phone.

Sunoo hurriedly ate some food, took three pills, and went with his sister to the bus stop, despite the two being 3 years apart, they were fairly close. Sunoo grabbed his phone from his pocket and began spamming his friend's group chat.

He giggled as everyone began their usual banter whilst the two waited for the bus. The bus came to a screeching halt as they entered and found their seats, Sunoo's usual one in the back at the window. The blonde put in his earbuds and chose to ignore the world until someone he knew would get onto the bus. "Excuse me?" a voice said followed by a tap on Sunoo's shoulder. Sunoo opened his eyes and took an earbud out, "I'm sorry to ask but is it ok if I sit with you? The rest of the bus is full," the person said to him nervously. "Of course! Sorry if I didn't hear you at first," Sunoo said taking his bag out of the seat beside him.

The two had talked nearly the entire bus ride, they were both in the same school and took an interest in one another, Sunoo made a friend, and soon his friends would have on too. "We're almost at the school, do you want to meet some of my friends?" Sunoo asked making sure all of his things were together. "Sure! I just transferred here, I only know like one person," the young boy said scratching his head. "Then let's go Sunghoon! What's your homeroom?" Sunoo asked as the bus stopped and students began flooding out of the bus. "Mr. Kim for math," he said as they left the bus. "You poor soul, I could never do math in the morning, but that's a good thing because I and all my friends have homeroom in that hall, we usually hang out in my first cause I have Ms. Park Jihyo for choir," Sunoo said as they walked to Sunghoon's first.

Soon the two found their way to Sunoo's first period, where they found the rest of the friend group, formally known as Enhypen. "GUYS! I made a friend!!" Sunoo exclaimed as he put his stuff down. The whole group looked up, Jay and Jungwon were helping Ni-ki with some kind of homework, and Heeseung and Jake were conversing about who knows what. "Hey! You finally transferred schools, Hoon!" Jay said happily walking over to the other. "Hey, Jay!" Sunghoon said happily as the two hugged. Turns out, unknown to the rest of the group, he was Jay's friend since they were little, but Sunghoon lived in a different city.

Everyone was glad they had finally met Sunghoon, they all got along as if they had known him all of their lives! Sunoo was glad as well because he got his number before he left for the first period. Before he knew it, the choir was already starting as they did warm-ups. (I'm not in the choir so I'm not 100% sure if this is correct, I want to be in choir though lol). As the class continued he felt a slight tightness in his chest, which concerned him immediately. However, for the time being, he chose not to think about it and to move on from it. Soon his first period was over, and he would have to wait a dreadingly long time before he would see his friends again.

The lunch bell finally rang as the students piled into the cafeteria, Sunoo entered the room, seeing all of his friends at their usual table. Most of them hadn't gotten their food yet, which Sunoo found slightly odd because usually, they were starving by the time lunch came. "Hey," Sunoo said slightly bewildered at Jay and Heeseung's argument. Finally, everyone was chatting and eating, mostly about random things, which were some of the moments Sunoo always cherished, doing this always made him happy, but it was somewhat hard to focus with the feeling in his chest still not leaving. Sunoo began zoning out as he stared at the food he brought with him, just fruit and baked chicken, nothing special, but low-fat. Which was his diet.(people with Coronary Heart disease often do low-fat diets)

"You good Sunoo Hyung?" Jungwon asked the older. Sunoo snapped back into reality, "Oh yeah, just zoned out for a moment," Sunoo said going back to the conversations and lunch. Soon the bell rang, and he and Jungwon both walked to their shared math period with Mr. Kim. The two went in and talked until the bell rang, they both had a test, which Sunoo could not keep his focus on. He felt a tightness in his chest, he began to shake and sweat. He quickly asked Mr. Kim and left for the restroom. He speed-walked down the hall to the restrooms. Closing the stall door, his mind began racing as to what might be wrong, then it hit him, his medication wasn't working. He thought back to the morning, realizing he hadn't taken one of his medications, the fourth being Propranolol.

Sunoo thought for a moment, he's never brought medicine to school before, so he didn't have anything, but the school probably did. Sunoo decided to finish his test, and then ask the teacher if he could go see the nurse, which he would have to ask him as quietly as possible, he didn't want a soul to know about his condition. He went back to the classroom, putting his remaining energy into finishing the test without focussing on anything else. He stood up and walked to the teacher's desk, handing him his test, he asked the question "Mr. Kim, may I go to the nurse? I forgot to take one of my medications this morning," Sunoo whispered almost silently, hoping he understood what he meant. The teacher just simply nodded and continued grading the already handed-in papers.

Sunoo left in a hurry to the nurse, opening the door quickly, he let a sigh of relief escape his lips as no one else was there. The nurse looked up from the counter she was working at, "Hey, do you need anything?" She asked turning around. "Do you have Propranolol by any chance?" he asked trying to keep himself together. "Oh, dear! Of course!" she said as she hurriedly searched her cabinets, realizing why he needed it. Sunoo took the pill and found himself just sitting and talking with the nurse till his symptoms went away. Eventually, he had to go back to class as he felt better, even though he really didn't want to go be silent or work in a workbook.

Sunoo felt his phone vibrate in his pocket as he walked down the hall, "Hey dude, I'm risking getting my phone taken for this but like, what happened? Are you ok?" read Jungwon's text, he must have been hiding his phone with something. "Yeah I'm fine, just had a really bad headache, that's all," Sunoo texted back before putting the cellular device back into his pocket. He walked back into the classroom and to his seat, he and Jungwon passed notes for the rest of the period till they were able to leave for the next class. Sunoo could tell from his and Jungwon's notes, that Jungwon was slightly suspicious of what had happened, which worried Sunoo.

The next couple of days went on, and more and more similar incidents happened as the days kept going. Sunoo felt worse and worse each day, and all of his friends started to notice it, but Sunoo just said he was fine. However one day at lunch, something had happened. It was a regular day, not including how horrible Sunoo felt, he began to feel crushing pain in his chest, his breath felt unstable, and he began sweating as he closed his eyes at the pain. "Sunoo? Hey, you ok?" Heeseung asked, stopping every conversation. Sunoo began feeling light-headed as he looked over at Heesung. He thought for a few moments before he began feeling his vision fade. "Hyung, I think I-I'm having a heart atta-" his words were cut off as he fell unconscious and nearly fell off the table, Jay catching him before he fell backward.

Everyone at the table began to freak out and immediately rushed him to the nurse, who called an ambulance. The school begrudgingly let them leave, which was also slightly in fright due to how intimidating the 6 looked when asking.

Eight people found themselves in the hospital worrying to death about Sunoo. His mother, sister, and friends. His friends had no idea what was going on, and his mother just felt pure guilt for not being able to get him a doctor's appointment sooner. Soon a nurse walked out and everyone's heads turned up quickly, in anticipation. "Is he ok?!" was almost what everyone said, all at different times. The nurse sighed and looked at them all, "He's undergoing surgery right now, so far there have been no complications, they had to do an emergency Coronary Artery Bypass surgery. We don't know which way this will all lean for now," the nurse finished her sentence and left silently. Not a soul said anything, the 6 friends still being confused.

About 5 hours later, the nurse reentered the waiting room, "The surgery was completed, and it went well. You may now visit him, but please be careful, we're not going to let him out for about a week," the nurse said ushering for the bunch to follow him. Everyone could feel their heartbreak as they saw him, in a hospital gown, with an oxygen mask, and bandages all across his chest, and asleep. He was visibly pale as everyone sat around him in the horribly uncomfortable chairs. About an hour later, Sunoo slowly began waking up. Jake gasped and began waking everyone up.

Sunoo was flooded with concerns, his mother feeling guilty, and tears. The nurse came in as they began speaking, Sunoo wasn't sure if he could reply with the oxygen mask on. He looked over to the nurse and tried to speak, but it hurt, so he just tried to gesture he wanted to take the oxygen mask off. She understood what he meant and took the mask off, then went to the side to write something within his file.

"Hyung, what happened?" Ni-ki asked trying to stay composed. Sunoo began to feel horrible as he began to explain to his friends about his Coronary Heart Disease and how he guessed plaque built up in his heart arteries, hence the surgery. Some began crying as other's jaws were on the floor, they couldn't believe they never knew. Sunoo had to take a few days out of school to stay in the hospital, his friends visited every day while he was there, and also had to drop off the lessons his teachers made for him. He was glad his friends cared as much as they did, and nothing had changed in the end like he worried would. The only difference is that they would check in more often, which Sunoo didn't mind. "Guess I got really lucky with these 6," Sunoo thought happily.
