Chapter 22

The group ran down the halls, Athea leading.

They all turned, skidding into the dining room, Allura and Lance peacefully eating. They jerked up when Athea and the others entered.

"Daddaddaddaddad!" Athea shouted excitedly skidding to a halt.

Lance jumped a bit, and looked over, a confused look on his face, as well as Allura's as they watched their daughter wave her arms back and forth.

"We found the lions! And there coming to New Altea!" She said, her eyes wide with wonder.

Lance and Allura shared a look, before following Athea out. They journeyed to the bridge, Lance typing on the control panel. The live feed of the lions was pulled up, and Lance and Allura laughed breathlessly. Allura clung to Lance's arm, smiling.

Lance pushed a button on the panel, sending a message to the others. "Keith! Hunk! Shiro, Pidge! This is Lance and Allura... We found the lions!"

Lance removed his hold from the button, and instantly hugged Athea and Allura, kissing both their heads, Everyone else cheering excitedly.

Athea laughed, pulling out of Lance's hold, and glancing over to Tyler, Hanna and Jayden who were all talking and laughing. Then she spotted Kuro, distanced from the group looking up to the live feed of the lions on a different holographic screen.

Athea walked over , and rested her elbow on his shoulder from behind him, then looking at him with a smile, looking over to the feed as well.

"You excited?" He asked.

Athea chuckled and nodded.

"What about you? I know you have always been the one listening to me go on, and on about Blue, and the other lions when we were younger, but, what about you? Do you want to do this?" She asked, glancing over to him.

He shrugged, folding his arms. "I've never really been one to care. But, I do care about you. And, You've been my closest friend for as long as I can remember."

Athea smiled, looking back to the feed. There was silence between the two, except for the noise of their peers, who continued to cheer.

"So..." Athea stretched, "that's a Yes?" She asked.

Kuro laughed, shaking his head. "Yes. Yes it is."

Lance and Allura turned to the group, hands by their sides.

"Have you figured out which lions you have been bonded to?" Allura asked.

Everyone nodded, and Lance smiled.

"Then what do you say we get you guys some armour?"

Athea turned and gave Kuro her widest smile, before shaking his arm.

"This is so exciting!" She muttered quietly.

He laughed, ruffling her hair.

The group, followed Lance to the control panel, and watched as he pushed the familiar button with the Voltron symbol.

The wall opened revealing the old hallway.

Athea led everyone down, to the rows of colorful armour and the Bayards laying in a neat row on the table.

Lance and Allura finally made it down, watching from the doorway.

Athea stared up at the Red Paladin armour, and her mouth turned sour as she remembered what had happened.

Tyler stood not to far away, staring in awe at the blue armour, and Athea began to feel the ping of jealousy that had developed once before.

She quickly averted her gaze, clenching her fists.

"Don't throw a tantrum. Your not a little kid." She scolded herself.

Kuro walked up to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Red, huh? Wasn't this my dad's?" Kuro asked, turning to Lance and Allura.

They both nodded. "Keith was the first out of us to pilot Red. But, soon he got an upgrade to The Black lion." Lance explained.

"Curiously, he didn't wear the Black armour." Allura said, gesturing to the space on the wall where it hung.

Athea turned to her parents, "Does that mean I will pilot The Black lion soon?" She asked confused.

Lance shrugged. "Maybe. But there were some... complications in our certain scenario. But, it is always a possibility."

Athea nodded, turning back to her own armour.

"All right then. Go suit up!" Lance called through the room.

Everyone nodded, taking their armour with them to their rooms.

Athea slipped on the brestplate, and adjusted her arm and knee guards, before looking at herself in the mirror on the wall.

She stood, taking in every detail she could. Because her dreams were coming true, right before her eyes.

She flexed her fingers, repeatedly curling them in fists and then releasing them, and well as occationally bending her knees.

Athea walked out of her bedroom, and down the hallway to the bridge. When she entered, all eyes averted to her, as well as the other new paladins, who were all dressed in their armour.

Athea's eyes trailed over her peers armour, with the bright colors that seemed to match them all along.

"Red suits you." Tyler said with a friendly smile, everyone else agreeing.

Athea smiled back, looking toward her parents, who were also giving her proud looks.

"When do the lions arrive?" Athea asked, trying her hardest to hide the excitement and impatience in her tone.

Lance gave her a smile.

"Hold your horses, there, Blue. You still haven't received your Bayards."

Hanna's face scrunched in confusion. "What are Bayards?"

"They are a weapon to the paladins. They each have a piece of the comet's ore, allowing it to be bonded with yourself to fit your need." Allura explained.

Hanna blinked. "Oh. Yeah, I still don't get it."

Jayden gently nudged Hanna with his elbow. "I think it will make more sense once you see it."

Lance nodded as they all journeyed down the small hallway once again.

Allura looked to Kuro. "Why don't you start, leader?" She asked with a smile, making his Bayard levitate toward him.

Kuro reached for his Bayard, his eyes glowing with wonder as his fingers laced around the handle and it began to glow and change its shape.

It stretched, transforming into a short, sleek black gun. Kuro glanced it over, before a smile curled his mouth.

"Try it out." Lance added.

Kuro held the blaster, holding it arms length away from his face. Everyone stood behind him as he fired.

A short, sharp, two pointed knife shot out of the gun, a purple glowing rope attached to it as it dug into the wall.

Kuro jumped at the action, staring for a moment, before walking over and retrieving the blade from it's hole.

His thumb accidently grazed a button, sending the knife to quickly go retreating back to the gun.

Kuro smiled. "Cool."

He continued to study it over, seeing a cylinder attached to the middle. He gently clicked it, and it instantly started whirling. Kuro held it up, and fired a few shots at the wall, each making burned imprints.

"It doubles as a blaster and a grappling hook," he said, still smiling, "Now that is cool."

Allura smiled, and looked over to the rest of the group. "Who's next? Hanna, what do you say?" She asked.

Hanna looked to the table, her gaze landing on the Yellow Bayard. She slowly walked over, taking it in her hands, a few beads of nervous sweat glazing her forehead.

It started to stretch and change morphing into a white and yellow tube.

Everyone else in the room stared at it confused, including Hanna. "Wooh. I get to fight evil with a metal stick. Fun." She said rolling her eyes.

She fiddled with it in her hands, everyone else anticipatingly waiting. Finding a small Button the size of her fingernail, she clicked in without hesitation.

It quickly changed, whirling and clicking, before changing into long, sleek, white and yellow crossbow, with many curves and ridges, making it look magical and ancient.

Hanna nervously looked it over. "This... doesn't look safe. At all." She commented, everyone staring at it with wide, awe struck eyes.

Hanna turned to the wall where Kuro had fired, and held the crossbow up to her eye level, a small scope popping up. She peered through before accurately firing at the wall, it being hit with a glowing yellow arrow.

She smiled at her success before letting her Bayard go back to handle mode, and walked back to join the others.

Lance looked to Tyler, "Want to give it a try?"

Almost as if he stood a little straighter, he nodded walked to the table, holding the Blue Bayard. It began changing as well into a long stick, with what looked like claws at the end, with three blades on each side.

He held it, looking up at it with amazement.

His attention moved toward the center where a small button flashed blue. Pressing it, the staff clicked, making everyone in the room jump.

Tyler twisted the two pieces, so the top claws were facing right, and the bottom left.

He held the staff with both hands, slowly spinning it in a circle before him, then speeding up. And he went, it looked almost like a shield, his fingers not missing a beat.

Tyler stopped, examining it again. He held the button, before pulling the claws away from each other. The staff now divided into two equal parts. Noticing a cylinder in the center of both his staffs, he spun them both a few times, watching and listening to the electricity crackle at the claws.

Tyler forced the pieces together, the static dispersing, and his Bayard changing to handle form before joining the others.

Lance and Allura looked back to everyone.

Athea rested a hand in Jayden's shoulder.

"Why don't you give it a try?"

He looked at her a little startled, before smiling and nodding. He walked over grabbing the Green Bayard off the table.

It morphed, changing into a well-rounded triangle shape. A handled phased from out of the bottom, and Jayden slid his hand through the opening, where it fit perfectly around the back of his hand and wrist.

He examined it, seeing the scope at the top he peered through, with a target constantly making calculations. Finding button beside his thumb, he gave it a quick tap, watching a green shot fly out.

He looked to the burn mark in the wall, before holding the button on his Bayard. A long, hot green laser shot out, and Jayden slowly moved his wrist, creating a perfect circle in the wall. He looked it over again, satisfied.

"This thing is neat. I'm going to use this a lot." He said with a smile.

When his Bayard returned to handle mode, all eyes landed on Athea, and she swallowed hard. She stepped to the table, taking the Red Bayard in hand.

It began to change as well, and Athea counted the seconds before it stopped.  It changed into a long lance, or spear. She let the bottom rest on the floor, the top going up past her head. She slowly swung it in a circle, it reminding her of Tyler's Bayard.

Looking it over, she also saw a small switch in the side, and clicked it. The spear made a sound as if she had been loading a gun, before splitting into two pieces.

Athea held the pieces in her hands confused, before sliding one piece on top of the other, a small handle and trigger stuck out from the bottom, and a scope popping up from the top.

She fired, and made the same burns in the wall. Athea looked down to her Bayard, undoing the pieces, and sliding it back into a spear, before it changed into it's normal Handle form.

"A Spear-Gun. Legit."

Slowly, a smile crept to her face, as she was unable to hide her enthusiasm.

Athea turned to Lance and Allura, smiling ever so wide, before walking over and hugging them.

She turned to Lance a laugh rising in her throat, "Was it ever this exciting becoming a Paladin for you?" She asked.

Lance smiled, looking down at her, while ever so gently ruffling her hair. "I didn't really have much time to think it through. I just know that it was exhilarating."

The three shared a loving moment before a loud beeping came from up the flight of stairs from the bridge.

Everyone in the room stared a look before running up the stairs as fast as they possibly could.

When they all saw what was happening, the holographic screen showed the lions entering the atmosphere.

Athea looked to Kuro, then everyone else, before motioning toward the entry door excitedly.

"What are we waiting for!"

Everyone ran down the hallway, there feet echoing off the walls, sounding like a stampede of stormtroopers. When they arrived outside, they were met by bright rays of sunlight hitting their eyes.

Everyone peered up at the sky, as the five sillouted objects slowly touched down to New Altea.

Lance and Allura couldn't contain there excitement,  as they watched, all the new paladins also eager to meet their lions.

They all ran to them as they landed, it shaking the ground and sending gusts of wind whipping through their hair.

Soon, all the lions stood sitting ever so still, each of their eyes glowing a gorgeous gold.

Athea held her hand over her eyes to shield them from the sun as she stared up at the Red lion. Before a smile broke its way onto her lips, as she quietly whispered to herself.

"Form Voltron."
