Homecoming[approx. 3 months and 6 days since activation]

When I get back to the apartment, I see several signs and cards taped to my door from Avery, Jack, and random people from work. I smile at the sight, of so many people coming together to encourage someone. I carefully pluck them all off the door, careful not to peel off color from the paper with the tape. The very last card looks odd to me, unlike the others, it almost lacks color completely. It looks formal, with a grey background and white designs scattered across it. I open it, curiosity getting the best of me. It reads

Dear Selene:

I was going to follow up on my promise to speak with you again, but you weren't here when I dropped by. I then heard about the unfortunate incident with you and your friend that occurred outside the building. I would've payed you a visit, but I didn't know what hospital you were in, if you were in a hospital for that matter. I can only hope you are okay and that we will be able to talk soon. I did not know about the riots that have been breaking out lately and now that I do I plan to use my public influence to put an end to them. Nobody deserves to be hurt as you and your friend were. Also, I have reason to believe my secretary was at the riot in which you were injured, she seems to know a lot about it. I will talk to her and depending on her answer, decide what to do from there. I understand people have a right to their own opinions, but I will not stand for such radical actions. Anyway, I hope that you are alright, and when you get this letter, do me a favor and stop by my building, I would like to speak to you again.

My prayers go out to you my friend,

Sincerely, Donovan Cress.

I stare at the letter for a few seconds wondering how Donovan got my address or found out that I was hurt. I decide to accept his invitation and fold the letter up, putting it in my pocket. Before I go out to the car, I enter my apartment to put the cards and signs somewhere. Upon entering my apartment though, I see something that nearly makes me cry. There are streamers, balloons, and more signs all over the room. On the living room table, there sits a beautiful cake with a large, neon blue sign on it. I walk over to look at the sign which reads:

Selene ,

All this is a gift from your friends at work and myself(Avery). Consider this not only a gift , but a hands on lesson of things humans do to cheer each other up. See how happy you were when you walked through that door!?(I assume you were happy?) Anyway, we all thought it would be a good idea to leave you a fun surprise for when you get home. I hope you're feeling better!

From: All of us

I smile, gingerly plucking the sign out of the icing on the cake. Oh how badly I want to sit down and literally eat the entire cake, but I realize it would only be fair to share it with those who gave it to me and also, I need to talk to Donovan. I exit the building and get in my car. The building I live in is in the "Suburban District" of the city. It's closer to downtown than my workplace honestly, but I do like the building. As I drive, I notice the sky slowly turning shades or orange, pink, and blue, a sign that night is approaching. I must have left the lab rather late. I love the city at night, unfortunately, I've only seen it once after dark. It seems like tonight will be my second chance. I enter downtown and see the lights on building beginning to brighten as the sky loses it's light. It doesn't take long until I find the building and parking garage again. I walk inside and go to what I now know is Donovan's workplace. I lightly knock on the door.

"Who is it?" I hear a voice that I now know to be Sarah's ask.

"Someone Donovan wanted to talk to." I answer through the door. I hear Sarah let out a huff, probably miffed that I called Donovan by his first name instead of "Mr. Cress" like she has to. I hear footsteps and the door opens.

"Oh, Selene! How nice to see you again." Donovan exclaims, seeing me standing there.

"The pleasure is mine...um..Mr Cress." I say.

"Oh you don't have to call me that. My name is Donovan as I told you before." He says, waving his hand dismissively. I didn't think in a million years I would've thought someone so formal would be so kind. "Anyway, why don't you come inside and have a seat." He says, walking back inside. I follow, this time sitting in the main room instead of the interior office. Donovan sits in a chair across from me and just looks at me expectantly.

"Oh, so what do you want to hear about first then?" I ask, knowing there was probably a certain reason he invited me over.

"Oh, at first I was hoping we could just have a normal conversation, but there are more important matters at hand. Could you please explain what happened with the riot?" He asks, crossing his legs and leaning forward in his chair, showing that he's interested.

"Well, I woke up and felt like things weren't right, then my friend bursted through the door shouting about how I needed to get out of the building. We ran around and went out the back door, but I was curious as to what was going on, so I broke away and ran around to the front, and straight into the riot. I got really, really angry and acted on impulse. I went up and stood beside Cai, that's my friend by the way, who was tied to a lamp post. I ended up giving this huge impulsive speech, which literally nobody listened to. Everybody rushed forward and started attacking me and Cai. I fell off the platform the post was on and smacked my head on it, which alongside the fact I was getting trampled, left me unconscious," I explain.

"Oh dear, that sounds horrible! You're okay now though, right?" He asks.

"Yes, I'm completely fine." I say, choosing to leave out the part about Dr. Viier.

"The reason I need to know all this is that I've already spoken with Sarah about this. I have reason to believe she lied so I figured I'd weigh the stories. Also, I need something to go off of when I speak about this on television tomorrow." He says, sitting back in his chair and holding his hands in front of his mouth in a "prayer" position.

"On television?!" I exclaim. I didn't know this was going to get this much publicity.

"Of course! I already had an interview scheduled for tomorrow on the Mark Keller show, so I called him up today and asked if I could have an extra couple minutes to address this problem and of course, him being the charitable, caring man he is, said yes." Donovan explains as if a slot on a talk show is the most average, everyday thing.

"The Mark Keller show! That's broadcasted nationally!"I almost shout.

"Yes, and these type of riots, believe it or not, are a national problem." He says calmly.

"Oh my god, this, this is gonna be news. This could be history." I stammer, learning I've apparently been given the ability to have panic attacks. Donovan cocks an eyebrow, seeing my nervous state.

"Selene, are you alright? This is a good thing my dear. With chances like this, these problems could be solved in a matter of weeks." He says.

"No, I get that, but think about what this'll do before it gets solved. There are literally only two people who could've told you about this, and to everybody's knowledge except for yours and mine one of those people are dead. I'm the only one who could've said anything. I'll be killed when people find out!" I say, covering my face with my hands.

"Selene." Donovan says. I feel a hand placed lightly on my shoulder. "You really think that I didn't think of this? Listen, I've already gotten with the city police force and they've arranged to keep an armed guard of three officers at the apartment building twenty four-seven for three weeks after the interview tomorrow."

I lift my head a bit, "What's to say the officers aren't against robots too?"

"Officers are trained to act against their opinion and solely for the law, if their opinion goes along with the law, they can act on it, but if it doesn't, they can not." He states.

"Alright, I guess I feel a bit better then." I say, still feeling uneasy.

"Are you okay enough to go home by yourself?" He asks, concern on his features.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I say, a bit taken aback at his straightforwardness.

"Alright, look for me on TV tomorrow! I guess I sorta made it didn't I?" He says with a smirk.

"Yeah, I guess you did." I say, standing up and walking towards the door. "See ya' around!"
